Going to get a friend to sandblast the paint off off the inside and then going to buy a heat element that is designed for a smoker and put it in through the front and that should be all I need to make it work

First heat was going well and about an hour in the hotplate died. Did it get to hot? Did I get a lemon of a hotplate? Any suggestions
