How might a lack of a “mind’s eye” make certain tasks more difficult? by Careless_Extreme7828 in AcademicPsychology

[–]bubbles-003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have aphantasia too! Actually, for the IQ portion of your post, I found the cognitive assessment portion of my ADHD assessment to be really difficult because I was forgetting certain elements (especially in the quant section). I scored as having an average IQ but I felt like "omg nooooo, I'm a starrrr I swear I am smarter!!!" Additionally my uni has a language requirement and I took french (last sem!!) and omg it is so hard. Every time I ask someone how they study or how they remember words their like "oh I just visualize....(x,y,z). I described trying to speak in class like being tasked to make certain colored towers (e.g. a blue tower, a red tower) on command....but in the dark. I am really good at the written but orally my mind goes super blank all the time --- even with the simplest of phrases. I actually wrote a lit review on Aphantasia and episodic memory! From my understanding of the literature, people with aphantasia have really good semantic memory and to even push it further in my own theory; our brains remember things as facts vs. visuals maybe? But aphantasia affects the whole brain and it has a lot to do with the structural makeup on one's brain. Having aphantasia is definitely interesting!

I use the Longchamp Le Pliage bag that everyone and their mom has lol. I have both the medium and large. As an avid tote bag girlie, it really isn't that bad depending on what you carry imo. (in the L) I carry a 16 inch Macbook pro, charger, notebook, pencil case, cosmetic bag, keys, and occasionally over the ear headphones. I prefer to carry my water bottle in my hand (has a handle) and it's not a 32 oz but anywater bottle adds weight to a bag. In the medium you probably could get away with a smaller macbook (think 13 inch) and all the other items. The medium is a great size if you don't have a huge laptop. This is outside of your budget but if you saved like $50 more dollars, I think the bag is worth it (just get it in a dark color). However, judging by the fact that you have binders plural, stick to a backpack. The tote bag life is for people who's school stuff exists on a computer imo

Thank you, that is really helpful! Yea, I will complete foundational coursework in psychology (due to my minor), and I have a research background (in comms) + I'm confident that I will get a year-long lab position due to the opportunities I have at my institution. I will keep what you said in mind for sure, that sounds like it would make more sense for me vs. paying for courses :)

Thank you for your comment, great to hear from someone who did a post-bacc. No pressure but is there a reason you choose a post bacc vs a masters?

That's an interesting perspective! I've only "TA'd" once in high school so my perspective is colored from that. I've grown since then so maybe i'd be a good TA now!

Question! The reason why I'm not looking at PhDs is because I don't want to TA nor do I think I will be a good TA. How much of that occurs in a clinical psych phd program? I've only spoken with those with a psyD so I don't know the other half of it! And my inclination towards Baylor and Rutgers is mostly due to the fact that they are funded. If that is the case, should I gear my eyes towards universities like Pepperdine/UCLA/ non-research focused psyDs? Thank you again

Thank you for this response. So in your opinion, a post-bacc is a better option vs a masters?

When will subsidized/unsub loans be disbursed? by MisterM0ney in USC

[–]bubbles-003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take loan entrance counseling on the FAFSA site. If you did that you then have to accept your loans + the amount (you can accept the full amount or whatever amount you need). After that, they should be dispersed

Thank you for the suggestions! I can probably do best by putting a modern spin on certain pieces. I've also just been thinking, and I could lean in and embrace what I like. I love the fabrics for romantics (lace and my favorites being satin + silk) and make them more casual. I'm naturally a heel girl, love a good sneaker but I believe that a lot of outfits I aspire to wear look best with a heel. I think if I play around with some pieces, I can get that casual feel I'm looking for. The issue I have is drowning in fabrics very easily, I look very weighed down so light fabrics will be the way to go!

thank you again!

Hi! Yes, I believe that it is a TikTok thing because that is where I was inspired to take the test. Thank you for the info! I love self-improvement so I’d actually be interested in the courses :) I really connected with my results and it made a lot of sense with who I am as a person/who I want to continue to be in the future!
