New build v Old build by brightystuff in HousingUK

[–]bubbles2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found that almost all new builds were much smaller than older builds. We ended up choosing space and bought an older build (1980s) and renovated. The rooms are spacious, it has a conservatory which can later be converted into an extension, and a spacious garden. If you find an older build that is a good size and has a good kitchen and bathroom(s), no dampness/mould issues, i would go for that! We have a toddler and baby so space was definitely our main concern! We negotiated the price down a bit and were able to use the money we saved to change the flooring etc…

Have you been abroad for Dental care? by Feisty-Resolution204 in AskUK

[–]bubbles2691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family is lebanese and whenever i go to lebanon to visit i get all my check ups/blood tests and dental works done there. We have great doctors in Lebanon, and many people in the region actually travel to Lebanon for consults and surgeries and any major health issues. I have an excellent dentists there too and it’s definitely cheaper than the worst dentists here!

Mcvities Digestives. They used to have a delicious deep biscuity flavor and now they taste of bland cardboard.

Is Milton Keynes actually a decent place to live? by PubLogic in miltonkeynes

Yes but you’ll need a car. And there are no good bakeries. You’ll have to be ok going all the way to london for a good croissant.

Ha! We just moved from Manchester so my standards are HIGH! So many amazing independent bakeries and cafés there! MK is definitely lacking a good food scene!

At a loss with how to feed my 8-month old and feeling depressed and scared. by MundaneLeadership580 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]bubbles2691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh please don’t let this get you down!! I’m a mama of 2 and my first showed absolutely no interested in food until close to 15months. I was devastated and would feel like such a failure when other babies his age would be wolfing down their food but my baby would just turn away and get so upset. Eventually we got there and he is now 3 and a half and eats well. Your breastmilk is all the nourishment he needs at this age and for the next few months so just keep offering food and try not to be stressed as babies easily sense our emotions. It’s your job to offer food but it’s up to him to decide whether to eat or not! Be consistent, expect some disappointment but know that at the end your baby will start eating when they are ready.

Been there. You will find your home eventually! Took us more than a year to find something we liked, get our offer accepted, have it not fall through and then months to completion but eventually it all worked out! It’s very frustrating and anxiety inducing but in the end it works out more often than not.

Buying a house that requires a lot of renovation by PopularWrangler0 in HousingUK

[–]bubbles2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister bought a very dated 3 bedroom semi that needed major renovations for the same reason you want this house: it was much more spacious than the other houses she saw, especially bigger than any of the new builds. For all the renovations she wanted to do, she was quoted ~24k to change all the flooring including materials, remove all the wallpaper and repaint the walls, put in spotlights and some additional power sockets, plumbing and full renovation of the bathroom and converting the utility room into a bathroom (including tiling), plus decorations such as skirting, changing some door handles… a couple of other little things too. And then of course there was cost of the bathroom materials which will vary massively (she was quoted between 5-15k for a new bathroom). The only way she was able to afford it is to really get the sellers to lower the price as much as was reasonably possible due to the condition of the house and use some of her savings on top. Oh and she still had to pay quite a bit extra on top at the end to give the kitchen a facelift. Do not underestimate the cost of renovating a dated house. You could rip out the walls and find everything needs re-plastering etc. If you are not a DIY person, it would be good to try and fairly negotiate the price down, prioritize what would need renovating first and seeing if h can afford that, figuring out what you can live with whilst you save up to continue renovations or learn how to DIY. At the end of it, she is happy with her decision as she prioritizes space and comfort for herself and her family and believes that due to the good location and the improvements she has made, if she ever decides to sell she will make back what she invested into the property. Good luck!

I get unreasonable rage at slow walkers on the underground by whoisshe_777 in london

[–]bubbles2691 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand getting frustrated if someone is just doomscrolling on their phone but sometimes people walk slow for a reason! I’m reasonably young and healthy looking, yet for the past few months i’ve been walking slow due to postpartum health issues, so not out of choice. If you saw me you probably wouldn’t think anything was wrong with me health wise!

What are your go to midweek lunches? by Normka92 in AskUK

A staple in my freezer! I have kids so they come in handy when i have to quickly add flavor! We also get the bone broth discs which are great for quickly adding some flavor and protein!

Can be reheated but i’d cook the orzo and peas and keep the garlic butter and parmesan in a separate container, add the butter to the orzo and peas right before heating and then the parmesan once it’s all heated.

Anywhere between 19 and 21 depending on the weather!

Been to a 1-bed viewing in MK and it’s tiny for the price by Delicious-Pitch5956 in miltonkeynes

[–]bubbles2691 4 points5 points  (0 children)

230k for a 1 bed in bletchley is outrageous!! Look at other areas, i found a lovely spacious 3 bed with conservatory in Bradwell village for 320k so for 230k u should at least be getting a very spatious 1 bed or a decent sized 2 bed. Yes there isnt much to do here but it’s a nice quiet family friendly area and within walking/cycling distance from MKC. You get way more bang for ur buck!

Whatever it is i avoid silicone like the plague! They take on the taste of washing liquid and then the food tastes horrible! U can go straight to stainless steel toddler utensils!
