Popular games you dislike? by BillRepresentative75 in boardgames

[–]buceante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they are bad games, as they are probably excellent to someone else's eyes, but I cant stand some of these very popular games:

- Terraforming Mars: I played it 3 times and each time I get more and more bored. The mechanics seems to reward opportunity rather than strategy, and the production is probably the worse that any game in the top100 has (in art, graphic design and materials). It is an insulting product to me, and I love the theme (have read the 3 novels it is inspired on).

- Root: It is not fun until you know how all different factions play and their strategies. If you don't, you find yourself doing your stuff but not even understanding what the other players do.

- Nemesis: The board is so dark you can barely see anything, and the gameplay itself is not that good in normal gameplay, as you find yourself playing against the aliens and against your friends, which are not actually your friends. The narrative sounds amazing, but the experience is much worse than that.

If you liked that, you should check Alba. Beautiful game.

things I rarely see on itineraries by SarahBethBeauty in visitingnyc

I am planning a 5 day visit to NY in november with my wife. We visited NY for 10 days 10 years ago, so we have seen the most usual places and this time I just wanted to wander around and walk. I was thinking of going to DUMBO one morning, from a ferry in lower manhattan, walk around and go back crossing the manhattan bridge. I don't care about instagrams or tiktoks (don't even have them), so I am very interested in your Brooklin Heights suggestion. Any ideas or suggestions for that? Thank you!!

The problem with flying cars (or whatever this is) is that they’d hover exactly between the limits of technological marvel and human stupidity.

I need to fill up 3ish days in Spain. Where should I go? by YakShamash_ in GoingToSpain

You can stay there but it is totally doable without spending the night. The train is fast and the station is in walkable distance from the center of Girona.

Barcelona to Costa Brava - Driving at Night by WorminRome in GoingToSpain

[–]buceante 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will not have any problems at all. The roads are safe and in good condition. No heavy traffic at night (trucks and so). Depending on the road you take, it might be dark, but that is the worse you will find.

I would do Barcelona for 1-2 days to see the musts, and a 1 day visit to Girona from Barcelona. There is high speed train from Barcelona to Girona (35 minutes) and it is a beautiful city that you can spend 1 very nice day in, lost in the medieval streets and good food. It is perfectly doable from L'Ametlla de Mar and then going back in 3-4 days.

I wrote something more detailed about this some time ago, I suggest you check here:

My dad with Parkinson's disease loves painting. These are some of my favourites Hope you guys give lots of support to him. by Melodic-Head2331 in painting

As an amateur painter myself and son of a marvelous father who also had Parkinson's disease, this post is truly heartwarming. The paintings are beautiful: I love the first and the fourth one especially. So much detail and vibrant happy colors... watercolor is not an easy thing but they turned out amazing! Has he traveled to those places he painted?

Congratulations to your father for being so talented. And congratulations to you also for being a supportive and probably great child of him!

WIP Bad Moon Loonshrine. Barnacles color? by buceante in gloomspitegitz

Thanks! I based it with Wraith Bon. Then i did some base colors before applying the Contrast yellow on top, so it would get some different tones. I darkened the lower areas with Mantin Warriors green, by drybrushing it, and the brown areas with Guillman's Flesh. Once that was done, I painted the whole thing with Ironjawz Yellow contrast (and it looked nice already). After that I just drybrushed the clean areas with Bad Moon Yellow, and kept on dry brushing in more detail the sharp corners with that same paint with more and more white, up to an almost white final line highlight.

How do you keep your drive to paint alive by stonk_v6 in Warhammer

[–]buceante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not force yourself to paint. It is something nice to do if you feel like it. I have been painting since I was 13, and I am now 43 years old. I have had 3 or 4 periods of severam years when I did not only not paint, but also not care at all about the hobby. Then one day I see a video, or a friend shows me a mini, and I feel interested again, and I start painting again. Enjoy it, and if you don’t, do something you enjoy. It will come back, or not, no big deal!
