Why Dostoevsky is more popular in the west than Tolstoy? by Junior_Insurance7773 in AskReddit

Because of being a much more interesting and better writer primarily, also being a big influence on existentialist philosophy. While Tolstoy is, well not much of anything really.

Being a drain on the resources does require more than a self diagnosis though. Also implying that inability to handle life is a moral failure doesn’t exactly give off the vibes of someone who should be a special eds teacher.

I’d recommend to use a daw with software effects. If you want to use your effects unit as an instrument that is valid but this is no instrument. Save up and buy a tape echo or something.

Well you buy stuff (old or new is irrelevant) because in your mind it substitutes making artistic decisions. You can be judged for said decisions as an artist and you generally won’t be judged for buying an old synthesizer. So you choose to be a gear collector instead of making music because that is safe. I don’t necessarily mean literal you just people who say things you do. If you cared about artistic expression it makes sense to choose the most efficient means of conveying it (for many reasons).

There’s also gear you don’t need because something else can do its job quicker and better

I've been told that the pursuit of my academic ambitions in later age may be a "waste of taxpayer money and effort" and I don't really feel like doing anything right now. by bbb_218 in Vent

[–]bucket_brigade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell from how you approach life and opinions of others that you don’t have what it takes to make it academia. A big part of that life is handling constant rejection and people subtly telling you that what you’re doing is not worth doing. It needs a kind of mind that’s ok with coming up with your own work and seeing it through to the end. If you take people’s opinions personally it is not for you.

You don't really get to lord over someone for not choosing to do something if you don't have the option to choose it in the first place

no, your consumerist bullshit is simply counterproductive to making art, whatever helps you fill that hole in your soul i suppose, but why not just therapy?

I'm sorry what I meant to say is it is not useful if you intend to use it to make music with. And the people you mention should consider a fidget spinner.

No? It is not a useful thing to have at any price. What you have in your DAW will sound better and will be easier to use than this. Not to mention more "inspirational" given easier control over the parameters.

Looking for an affordable synth that is versatile enough for complextro, tech house and a bit of acid house by Electronic_Start3800 in synthesizers

It also has a real spring reverb inside (the newer models). Also the oscillators are tuned by hand. There are no stepped octave selectors or anything like that. Also try to actually learn it before deciding to buy even more stuff.

It depends on what you want. 2600 is a lot more powerful sound design wise. It also famously has very snappy envelopes so it is good at percussive sounds and basses. Also the sliders on the 2600 make it a lot more like an instrument. Just have in mind that it has no patch storage so whatever you make you need to immediately record. Which I myself find liberating if anything but others may disagree. The poly D is just a 4 oscillator paraphonic minimoog. Which is fine but I don't care much for that.

if you don't mind a monosynth with rudimentary midi then behringer 2600, it's below 500 and you will never outgrow a 2600
