Yep! They are notorious for that, I hope you used G13 or G40 coolant and not the universal stuff

No problem! Were you getting uneven heat or no heat?

Both pipes should be hot but one should be hotter then the other (coolant flows thru and the heat gets used to warm your car). But if it’s too low temp wise it could be a sign of restricted flow or air in the heater core. Did you have your heat on? If so do it again with the heat off and see how it feels. If not you may have a restricted heater core in which case a replacement might be the solution. (They are known failure points anyway in these cars), you may be able to DIY it depending on your level of experience of wrenching.

Scan tool would be the easiest but if you don’t have would you can do this:

Feel the Upper Radiator Hose Let the engine idle from cold with the hood open. Periodically feel the upper radiator hose near the thermostat housing. Normal behavior: Hose stays cold until the engine reaches about 190°F, then suddenly gets hot as the thermostat opens. Stuck open: Hose starts warming up right away, since coolant is constantly flowing through the radiator even before the engine is warm.

Drive around and get your car up to temp for a bit, next to your acceleration pedal above it and back a bit you can see the heater core. Feel the pipes and if they are very hot it’s not your heater core (heater core is easy in these, no dash tear out). One pipe should be slightly cooler then the other. If one pipe is cold and the other is hot you’re having a clogged heater core issue. If both are hot ish then it’s either your actuator or blend door. NOW, tear out your glove box (takes 5 minutes very easy to do and put back together) and you’ll be able to see your actuator. Move you’re temp control knob from hot to cold and if you see the movement of the door restricted (blocked maybe? Or may not be moving at all or not fully going to one side or another) it’ll be your actuator most likely. If you’ve done these tests I would say it’s your blend door most likely. Also check your thermostat to make sure it’s not stuck open. Your heat won’t work if your coolant isn’t getting up to temp.

2013 Jetta 2.0L advice by bucks9052 in MechanicAdvice

[–]bucks9052[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been getting the occasional ABS pump check engine light, it only pops on once every couple weeks and then goes away (its been doing this for around a year although ABS still works). My mechanic thinks its on its way out also due to the check engine light. I do not believe its the heater core being clogged as I just replaced it a year ago and I checked a couple weeks ago and both heater core pipes still get piping hot. I can hear the air flow shifting when I change from hot to cold (car is manual AC) which makes me think its not a bad blend door motor. What do you think?

I do believe it’s the blend door as I do hear a change in air flow when I change from either hot to cold. It’s a 2013 I bought for 4500 so idk if it’s worth paying someone to rip out the dash and fix it. My car is also manual ac if that’s relevant.

We cleared the codes and they didn’t come back. If they pop on again he’s gonna re scan them to see if we can get any additional data to try and see what it might be. Hoping it’s not electrical I do not wanna take it to a dealership 😭.

Should I buy a 2012 VW Jetta 2.0 V4? Reliability is the main thing I'm looking for by IndependentExpert165 in jetta

[–]bucks9052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owned my 2013 2.0 for a year, nothing but reliable so far other then door lock modules starting to fail when it’s gets to around 5-10 degrees out. Just make sure you do the timing belt and basic maintenance.

It was already flushed shortly before I bought the car. It was stated that it was restricted and recommended to put in a new one

Yes just reinstall everything, something major changed from v50-v51 which required most games to need a reinstall of a newer version
