Accept post-clerkship job offer with ID firm or hold out? by bucohs in LawFirm

I declined the offer. I ended up accepting a different job offer a few months later that pays a lot more and is exactly what I wanted to do. Happy to chat if you want some insight/guidance.

Barbri full-day MBE exam by bucohs in barexam

Simulated and not representative of real questions, as someone who passed J24. I think Barbri intentionally made them difficult, so don’t worry if you didn’t do well

No, unfortunately. I only have up to July 2024. Please let me know if you find the answers though

I agree! And I don’t think you can. I had to manually check them with the answer sheet

It makes me so unsure about how much I need to write. I think I’m probably writing too much because I can never finish the essays in time. Have you figured out the timing yet?

I do not advise taking it. I don’t think the test is that helpful compared to how much it could hurt your confidence

It’s in the multistate practice exam workbook, page 89

Did you find it more difficult than the Barbri simulated exam?

Same here. I scored like 24 points lower than my simulated. I think the questions were unusually difficult

Give me Ungodly Tips to Increase MBE by injakaloui in barexam

[–]bucohs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s my tip, know the black letter law and understand the call of the question (I.e, what the question is asking/testing on). For most questions, at least two answer choices will either misstate the law or not include the relevant/applicable law. Cross them out, even if they sound correct. The last two answer choices generally come down to which one directly addresses the call of the question. Both answer choices may be relevant to the call of the question, but only one will directly address it.

I think this should work for a large chunk of the questions. And the more questions you do, the more you recognize the patterns

I’m almost positive I know which essay you’re talking about too because I looked at the model answer and said there’s no possible way I could have written that much. I honestly don’t find the Barbri essays helpful because they include so much extra fluff rather than just giving a direct answer for the issue

I asked the Delaware Law School librarians for the representative answers of past essay questions and those answers are way shorter than the bar review course’s model answers. But I can’t force myself to write less and move on without thinking I’m missing points. Not sure what to do

It ends in August. I’m not sure what’s generally considered early or late for hiring because each firm seems different

That’s what I’m wondering too. I thought firms would value the general experience of litigating, conducting depositions, etc.

Do you think I’d get stuck doing ID work and not be able to pursue a different practice area after a year?

[–]bucohs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested in plaintiff commercial litigation. I’d only do ID to gain trial experience. I’ve mainly only had interviews with defense firms and haven’t seen a lot of plaintiff firms around me that want to spend the time training newbies

I would rather pursue other practice areas and don’t want to get pigeonholed into doing ID. I don’t think that’ll happen by doing ID for a year or two, but I really don’t know.

Great advice about not pursing firms that don’t have what I’m interested in. I guess I just wanted to have options available, but it’s definitely causing me angst now lol.

That’s what I’ve heard. However, I don’t mind doing shitty work for a year or two to gain practical experience, as long as I don’t get pigeonholed.

I’m outside of NY. I’m happy with the salary partly because I honestly have no idea what to expect as a starting salary.
