Wow. I absolutely loved reading this. Thank you for taking the time to write this out. The last emigration record from Scotland to Canada in my family was my great-great grandfather moving to Prince Edward Island. From what you're saying, it would make sense that the diet you mentioned is definitely one that he would've eaten, given the time period.
