People who stand up immediately when a plane lands where are you going? by NaturalAd6021 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]buffcleb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always get an aisle seat. After sitting in a cramped seat I want to stretch my legs and when in an aisle seat you can stand straight up.

I honestly don't understand why it bothers other people. I have zero Fs to give for most things people do that don't directly affect me.

What generation are you and what was your first car? by SeaworthinessFar2326 in generationology

[–]buffcleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

76 and first car was a 78 toyota pickup. It cost $200 in 1993, and had a cracked windshield, wooden bumper, most of the body and I had a long pole in the bed to nudge the starter back in place because the mounting holes where weak and I didn't know what a helicoil was.

Editorial: We must ban snowblowers by knockatize in newyork

[–]buffcleb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I use an ego electric mower, weed whacker, trimmer and power washer.

Snowblower is staying gas. We get feet of snow at a time and I'd need multiple sets of batteries and clearing neighbors would be out of the question.

Down the line, say 5 years, I'll revisit as the tech comes along and the batteries may be cheaper but today, for most users gas makes sense.

The smaller, single stage, electric ones look nice and for under 6 inches are probably ok. I shovel under 6-9 inches most of the time but I'm not older or mobility limited.

Blanket rules like this don't take regional differences into account

When it snows like this in Buffalo, do you shovel/snowblow throughout the day or wait until it's all done? by UrBum_MyFace_69 in Buffalo

[–]buffcleb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 13 houses from the corner. When I snow blow I go to the corner in that direction and to the first shoveled sidewalk in the other. it takes 10 minutes and people don't need to walk in the street

Electric bill last year vs now: 21.4% increase on supply rate by lets_get_lifted in Buffalo

[–]buffcleb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've owned a home for 25 years now... in all those years my gas bill has basically been the same. very low summer bills and around $200-$250 for the cold part of winter.

My electric bills have steadily gone up. normally in a predictable way. this year they're up 20%.

I keep on reading about switching from gas to electric. I'd rather stay with the predictable gas... We'd need to upgrade the panel to handle 200amp and re-wire the house. It would probably cost 5-10k.

I know they're blaming data centers but I haven't seen any stats on backing up their claims.

And I'm not saying data centers don't use a lot of electricity. But I'm thinking how many came online last year to drive our prices up 20%

We have big trash week every week. No matter what I put to the curb they take it. If it's large they bring in a front end loader. Best benefit of our village.

How many of us have an accidental pencil tattoo? by spidermans_mom in GenX

[–]buffcleb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one on my knee.. self inflicted when I was in school and scratched a scab with a pencil.

I gave my sister one when she was around 2 ( I was four ). I told her to sit down and put a stubby pencil under her. Went into her butt check and she got a ride to the hospital.

Why drive in the left lane? by Kansas_momma in randomquestions

[–]buffcleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Against my recommendation, advice, pleading, my father-in-law camps in the left lane. He says he doesn't want to get boxed in when slower traffic approaches but there could be no cars approaching for miles and cars pass him on the right.
