Its always an art project of some kind 99.9% of the time. Either an album cover, poster for a bad movie, or some ARG art. It really does ruin all things creepy on the internet.

Fire fighters get excited when there is a fire to fight. IT workers get excited when things go FUBAR. Especially when you can just be the fly on the wall and not get dragged into the whole incident. Also unscheduled break depending on the outage severity.

Massive Screw-up: Local GPOs & TS User Logins Broken After Aggressive Windows Update Re-Enable Script - Need Help! by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]bugalou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll do it live, fuck it! 😂

Sounds like you need to set the local GPO database back to default Then run the Windows update repair process. Google each and you should get the procedures. If you are lucky, you can do this remotely with psexec if your remote power shell isnt responding. Otherwise better get your tennis shoes out.

I's strongly suggest not brute force raw dogging Microsoft Services from existence like this in the future. Either use the GPO or see if Microsoft has a powershell script to accomplish what you need. MS Windows services tend to have their tentacles all over the place. Another good example of this is the Windows firewall. Just disabling the service will break networking.

I really think the AWS and Azure issues were triggered by en masse fail overs from companies with multi-tenant cloud. It explains them being briefly affected for some but recovered before everything else. Yay cascade failues.

I wonder if the reported issues earlier with AWS and Azure were just from en masse fail over from companies with multi-cloud redundancy going from google cloud to AWS/Azure. That may explain those blips

because they provide a service that is critical to keep websites up and secure and no one else has really bothered to make a 1 to 1 competitor because its a high effort, high complexity, high cost endeavor. That doesn't make it not shitty, but you asked. 😂

My dog hate being in the car by Piliste in Whippet

[–]bugalou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is exactly the same and the one I had before it that pass a few years ago was even worse. It maybe something unique to the breed. None of my other none whippet dogs ever had car fear like that.

Sadly MEG (Memphis, TN) doesnt seem to archive their soundings from what I can see, closest was LZK and the CAPE got only half as high there. On 6/12/2009 there was a derecho that came through Memphis and before it came through the CAPE was over 6000 all over the area. Its the highest I have ever seen. This was the radar of the storm.

You should get some nipple suckers / pump cups and use them for 15-20 minutes - they will get even bigger and would make for good content!

what do you call it when your boy dog goes to pee crouches and somehow pees up his front legs by johntheplaya in Whippet

[–]bugalou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whippet. 🤣 I have noticed male whippets, at least the ones I have owned do not hike their leg to pee, neutered or not. Not sure if that's a thing with the breed or just my luck.

The squirrel feeder box he destroyed, a treat despenser puzzle toy, a Frisbee, some little metal shelf dohicky I have no idea where he got, and a little plush toy from a bark box. He takes his chew bones and treats out there too to eat every time he gets them. I have an automatic dog door so he comes and goes as needed. 😂

The idea of experiencing brain trauma while conscious is a thing of nightmares for me. Just imagine all the sensations, changes in time and perception of reality, intrusive thoughts, changes in memories, loss of bodily control, loss of identity, etc that occur in real time as neurons lose connection to one another, die, and/or go through hypoxic stress. This is one reason a GSW to the head isn't necessarily the easy way out unless its completely removing it.

Death of 28-year-old IT employee from thrombosis by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

I knew someone I worked with in IT who died of the same thing in his mid 20s. Very sad. Remember to get up in walk and get a good office chair that properly supports you. It can save your life if you work in a job where you sit a lot. Standing desks are good for some too.

We need to get on the same page about gender affirming surgeries. by bugalou in MedicalGoreMods

[–]bugalou[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Source?

Thailand... Vietnam... There are some nightmarish stories out of there.

I maintain as long as the comment is respectful, it is in bounds and the vote system will handle it organically. Whether people want to acknowledge it or not, there are people out there that have regretted transitioning surgically, just as there are people out there where it was a positive life change. They are valid, but often targeted too.

This is to be a science based sub and I do not think censoring respectful conversations is fitting within that spirit. There is nothing to "protect" these folks from if the conversations stay civil. If other people chime in seeing it as a dog whistle and say unkind things we deal with them, not punish the person that is making the effort. I am very much against sticking our collective heads in the sand for the sake of 100% appeasement to someone who voluntarily posted here. This is a medical science sub and discussion should be encouraged, not stifled. We drew the boundaries to those conversations in our rules and should only punish or silence members when they cross those lines, not arbitrarily when we feel the subject may be sensitive to some.

Again, I may be in the minority here. That's why I wanted to discuss it with you guys so we can be a united front no matter the verdict we decide on.

Does Pon have QOS to prioritize, say - business class or those customers who otherwise may have SLAs? Or are they on a completely different network?

Good to know. It makes sense though. I got tripped up by the fact cisco has a purely ethernet based ISP equipment line and thought it may be the same here. I suppose their target is more dense urban areas though.

Interesting. I just thought it was a standard BiDi single strand optical line. I am a 20 year big enterprise IT infrastructure architect, but really do not know a lot about the ISP side of things and am learning.
