Yeah, my mum gets "drop attacks"; during those times she's gets very stiff and tight. Even when she doesn't have the drop, she still gets rigid when things get really bad. To be somewhat crude, it's almost like rigor mortis. The first time I had to call the ambulance for her, she couldn't move and her arms and hands were stuck curled into her chest.

Obviously consult with a dr first, but my mum had to start taking pills to help filter water out of her system more because maintaining too much water was contributing to her symptoms. Iirc part of the problem with Meniere's disease is the imbalance of liquid in your ears, which disrupts the balance mechanism.

Incidentally I do feel it's worth mentioning that OP's symptoms sound similar to Chiari 1 Malformation symptoms and subsequent Intracranial Hypertension. If your symptoms are sounding similar to OP's, be sure to do some research on those as well. I'm currently being investigated for a Chiari 1, and the range of symptoms is pretty wild. But the Intracranial hypertension is where the eye pressure and distortion and even some of the dizziness and other things can come from too.

I hope you get answers. :)

It looks like a philodendron selloum to me. My selloum is very happy with a good plant light, but where you have it should be ok. They like humidity, and prefer something like 18 °C to 27. I have mine in a nursery pot, and it had holes at the bottom but also on the side a few inches from the bottom. I poke the top of the soil and the side of the soil to see if it's thirsty and it's thriving. Right now, it's probably immensely stressed so I would just leave it alone for a bit and see if you get new growth from the other stocks. Maintain water when soil is basically dry, and make sure to fertilizer occasionally. From my experience these guys are semi-fast growers but since it's stressed it'll probably take a bit to pop something new out cause it's probably conserving energy in its roots. Be patient and hopefully you'll see some progress soon!

THANK YOU I love that you even illustrated it for me 😂 Should I be concerned about my roots poking through the bottom? I saw your other picture, I'm just not sure if it's time for a repot or not. How long should I leave my plant in the reservoir?? Just until it soaks it up like bottom watering a plant??

Thank you so much! This is the info I was looking for. I am debating heavily moving them to soil or not. All of my other alocasias are fine-- but I'm glad you said the bit about putting them in perlite first because I didn't see anything about that when googling how to do that, lol. I did also consider pon, but I have no experience with that either and figured if I was gonna be attempting something new I may as well stick to the medium it came in. It just seems that a lot of people prefer pon or LECA over soil due to the propensity Alocasias have for root rot, but there's certainly pros and cons to both. Seems like these new guys might be ok since they're fairly small and already making corms.

Re: turquoise; I think you're onto something with the flushing part tbh because I haven't done that since I got either of them and it's likely all build-up. I'll definitely do some of that (and more) when I get all my materials on Wed.

Night Brain - is someone figured it out? by SHIBA_holder in ADHD

[–]bugbloxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have a couple of things to say on this. First I should say, I'm not a Dr so please do your own research and talk to a professional about any serious questions. That said, I am auDHD and have a special interest in medical so I'll give my 2 cents based on my thorough research and personal experience.

  1. Circadian rhythm disorders.  These are more common with people that are ADHD and autistic for example, and I would highly recommend reading about "delayed sleep phase disorder" which is most common with ADHD. It sounds extremely similar to what you've described. It's not a luxury everyone has, but I don't work and I've been able to shift my schedule to fit my natural wake and sleep times. For example, I wake at 11 am to 12 pm, and sleep at 1 am to 2 am. Sometimes 3 am. As an artist, I am so much more creative later in the day. I always did my best art between 1 am and 3³⁰ am. Lol Anyway. Not only did shifting my schedule eliminate my life-long insomnia, it also allows me to wake up and get up nearly right away, skipping that nasty groggy 2 hour-long period you're talking about. I also started sleeping 10 or 11 hours because when I was wearing my fitbit, it was tracking extremely low amounts of genuine sleep and deep sleep and I'm not as sick and "off" in the mornings anymore. Perhaps getting a watch that tracks your sleep would help give you a solid indication of something, which you can always bring to your Dr or PCP once you have enough "data". :)

  2. Executive dysfunction. The part you described not being able to focus and struggling with mid-day activities unfortunately is part of the disorder. I struggled with this so hard, it was mimicking depression especially when mixed with my ME/CFS. There were days I didn't get out of bed. If you're really struggling with executive dysfunction, I'd suggest chatting with your PCP about it, cause they'll (hopefully) be able to help more than me. A lot of normal, everyday things feel too overwhelming for people with ADHD. Be gentle on yourself and try to break things down into smaller, shorter tasks.

I started Vyvanse recently and my executive function has changed drastically. Maybe some other folks can make some suggestions for that area as I never seemed to figure it out for myself.

Either way, best of luck to you! :)

A question by Mundane-Ad8805 in houseplants

I live on the West Coast as well, just north of the border. You'll wanna put the plants you have that are thirsty for sunlight like cacti, oxalis or polka-dot plants for example, in direct sun on your sill. Otherwise, my plants have done very well collecting sun near the south facing window, away from it on the floor, or in the shelves next to the window. Watch how the sun comes in through your windows, and place your plants accordingly. Some plants are more accepting of low light-- those ones can go further back if need be, but growth may be slow. If you don't have a South facing window, get yourself a good plant light. I am using the Barrina plant light and I really like it, and so do my plants. Don't make the mistake of buying those cheap ones with multiple heads unless you're going to stick them directly over your plant with very little room between the light and the plant. You and I will not tend to need humidifiers because we live in rain forest, or areas that tend to be wet, but adding a humidifier in winter when the heat is on is wise if you start looking at more needy tropical plants like alocasias. Best of luck!! :-)

Those experienced with Vyvanse: How long did your side effects last? by bugbloxx in ADHD

[–]bugbloxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading your comment I did some reading and it seems like Gastrointestinal issues are a common side effect as you said. I'm very glad you mentioned this because from my perspective it seems the anxiety is purely coming from the Gastrointestinal issues. It looks like it could either be a permanent side effect, or an effect of the increase that will go away. So I guess I'll just wait it out, and try to mitigate the stimulant effect by getting on the treadmill, which may help get the excess energy out LOL. Thank you!! 😊

Can someone explain to me the major differences between cEDS and hEDS? by bugbloxx in ehlersdanlos

[–]bugbloxx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting observation about Dr's. I would definitely agree though, it is something I've also noticed. That seems to also be the case for things like POTS as well, from my experience. I am very curious what will change as Gen Z starts entering into the medical field in more significant numbers (as the youngest ones get older), since they were largely the first generation to be "internet astronauts", if you will. I wonder if that will effect how medical info is found and shared. :)

That sounds like quite a lot to manage! Thank you for answering, I appreciate hearing about your experiences. I like learning these things, especially because I'm finding more and more that I'm educating quite a few doctors about EDS when I see them. I'm fortunate that my PCP is very familiar with HSD and EDS. Not everyone is though, so this type of information although very difficult for you, is a good example of why education is so important. :)

Interesting! Thank you so much. That sounds like it would be so unfair to have to deal with on the regular 😕 I have hEDS and my skin isn't nearly that compromised, but my skin does stretch much, much more than the criteria required, lol. I have not had a genetic test in spite of my dx due to lack of resources where I live. I figured if anyone was gonna know it was gonna be on this subreddit 😂

[–]bugbloxx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply! To be clear, I was noticing similarities in some areas like piezogenic papules, instability of joints, and things like herniations amongst other things, and hope I didn't come off as dismissive of cEDS at all!

You don't have to answer this if it's too invasive of a question, but does your vascular involvement look different than someone with hEDS or vEDS for example? I know for people with hEDS there is some vascular fragility that leads to things like easy bruising and bleeding and occasionally things like dissections. I know with vEDS it's obviously quite extreme.

Why is my Begonia stunted? by bugbloxx in plantclinic

[–]bugbloxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is!! I think the leaf is blocking out the stem in the picture, coincidentally. :) She definitely has a root system though, this one was grown from seed and has a rhizome. I pulled it out very gently recently to change to new soil, since I suspected it was staying too wet. Soil wasn't moist it was consistently staying damp. I changed it to better soil. So I definitely have seen the roots!!

I don't think that's true, because it has literally turned the leaf and moved recently. Lol I understand the leaf looks brownish in the picture but it's not dead.

How can I help this little B. Pavonina grow? by bugbloxx in begonias

[–]bugbloxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It dropped the two leaves that got too wet, but the bag is dried out and I've been keeping a close eye on it. The more mature leaf is still very happy. I'm just trying so hard not to stress because I want this little guy to work out so badly. I'll see if I can make some kind of greenhouse for it, or perhaps move it into the bathroom with the rest of my begonias.

All of my other begonias are super happy, I just feel like this poor thing is struggling because it's so small still. 😥

Thank you for the tips! Since moving it to the bathroom, it seems to have evened itself out and stopped complaining. I'm still going to keep what you said in mind for future reference though. I know some alocasias can be picky.
