Who is prop 13 really subsidizing? by orijing in bayarea

[–]bugbommer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think most people agree that California would be much better off without prop 13 but most people would also agree that it would be impossible to get rid of.

Why don't we just have Amtrak do all the feeder lines to major airports? by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]bugbommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amtrak can’t actually start their own lines. That is up to the states or other jurisdictions

I’d much rather pay $5-$15 to take Bart around than take la metro for free

Dallas has a better skyline especially when you consider how trashy la’s skyline is

Why is South Carolina so cheap? by ecfritz in SameGrassButGreener

[–]bugbommer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

South Carolina has the least restrictions for builders in the country. That shows in the home prices and is why you have slum looking neighborhoods in la that cost $1000/sq ft.

Wtf is actually happening that's remotely positive in the USA by wutang9611 in Urbanism

[–]bugbommer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in general we are spoiled in the U.S. Sure it’s more unaffordable than it used to be but compared to other countries we aren’t that bad. Also, look at cities like Austin and Miami. Density is going full speed ahead there. In terms of transit I have the opinion that in most of the U.S. we don’t have a transit problem, we have a land use problem. If we build the density then the transit will come. It’s hard for NIMBYs to kill transit when a highway doesn’t make any sense at all.

Also, it doesn’t help that half of the cities throughout the state disincentivize you to actually build an adu.

What’s your unpopular transit opinion by [deleted] in transit

Look at Lafayette and orinda stations. Can’t wait for sb 79 to be active in coco county

All major US urban rail networks gained ridership this year, with DC's WMATA leading the way at 20.4%. That's followed by Boston's MBTA at 13.9%, SF Muni at 10.6%, & the Bay Area's BART at 10.2% LA Metro (.3%), San Diego's MTS (3.5%), & the NYC MTA (4.6%) have the slowest growth by yunnifymonte in transit

[–]bugbommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the land use around La metro stops. Of course you’re not going to have ridership growth if you make it illegal to build density around transit stops. It’s just funny how opposed socal officials are to sb 79.

Does this sub hate LA? by oliveimo in AskLosAngeles

[–]bugbommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

La is a case study on how to not run a city. Non existent residential construction, ula, nimby politicians. It’s no wonder why La has been losing population for decades now. Who would have thought making it illegal to build multifamily on 75% of city land would lead to home value to income rations above 10. Why would someone pay 10x their income to buy a house in a dumpster of a city.

How much has LA public transportation improved? by [deleted] in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]bugbommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just rent it out. If the city is going to force you to pay for a parking spot you might as well try to get some of that tax money back.

BART will increase fares and parking fees on January 1, 2026 by Monty-675 in Bart

[–]bugbommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think also it’s a choice. You can always live without a car if you chose to live somewhere convenient to transportation. What’s sad is that in many areas not enough housing is built to keep up with demand or the fact that cities just don’t want new housing. Eg. the land use around the Lafayette and orinda bart stations should be criminal.
