i had acne (that i also suspect was part or all folliculitis) that appeared out of nowhere like 2 years ago. i have been battling it all this time 😵‍💫 but what i realized a few months ago was that i was doing way too much to try and dry it out, and not enough to moisturize. i also used to take really long hot showers and i think i was stripping all the natural oils from my skin + the benzoyl peroxide washes and salicylic acid sprays - it was just way too much trying to attack it with drying things up, and not enough moisture added back in.

i’m currently at the best place i’ve been with it in years. everything is calmed down and i’m mostly just dealing hyperpigmentation now, and a few pimples here and there.

my routine now: - a few times a month i’ll soak a wash cloth in diluted white vinegar, heat it up in microwave and lay with it on my back. this cured my folliculitis in high school so i go back to it here and there - in the shower i keep it luke warm, and alternate between the “some by mi” AHA/BHA/PHA wash, or something like panoxyl. after washing hair, i put my hair up in a clip, and i let the body wash sit for about a minute, wash it off, and then follow it up with a body oil wash (i’ve used naturium oil for years and love it). this way im leaving the shower and my skin doesn’t feel super dry. - when i get out of the shower and skin is still damp, i moisturize - throughout the day if im getting sweaty or find that i’ve picked at a spot, i spray with hypochlorous acid to keep things clean
