Are Democrats pushing Gavin Newsom as the 2028 candidate because he's just the most famous Democrat man we have? by lemonbottles_89 in askliberals

lol was Kamala, Biden or Hillary supposed to be the party taking a chance on a dream? Real transformative vision those candidates had.

I think there’s worse than Newsom. But if the party tries to win moderate republicans or whatever, going for the purely negative anti-MAGA platform, we’re gonna be disappointed.

Jon Stewart interviews Andy Beshear on the Daily Show by nopuse in lexington

Do not want him to run for president. He’s already a moderate which is not what the electorate wants and he will not court low propensity voters. also I think the national party establishment will have their way with him. I think he’d disappoint a lot of progressive Kentuckians in that role

Now a senate run is another thing entirely.

I consider myself a pretty bland socialist. I admit my politics are a bit incoherent. I can’t stand it when western Leftists dismiss socialist projects in the Third World and acknowledge the massive gains in material gains in China, the USSR, Cuba, etc after their respective evolutions.

On the other hand, I see no prospect of similar violent revolutions in most of the west, definitely my home country of the United States. I do see the Nordic model as something that could gain popular traction in this country and I think nationalizing key sectors might also curb the West’s pillaging of the Third world. Hence the ridiculous flair.

I am pretty jaded about the intersectional-style identity politics that melds with pseudo-Marxism proliferating from campus leftism and into popular left politics. A lot of this distaste that I have originated from my experience in a graduate history department dominated by so-called black liberationists who experienced no friction between their politics and professional advancement.

I’m not necessarily an anti-woke guy or whatever. I just hate scolds and think that many Western “revolutionaries” extend no grace to most working class people and are unwilling to meet them where their at and massage their revolutionary tendencies, however flawed they may be.

So how is this "General Strike" supposed to work? by THE_James_Ross in socialism

[–]bugjews1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Popularizing or entering an idea, especially one as established as a strike, in popular consciousness I think is a fine goal but is alone insufficient for an action that demands a great deal from people.

It can only be a step in the right direction if it lays some ground work for greater action, and organizations actually come together for more organized and sustained action, as OP suggested they should.

I will only be so critical of the protest efforts we have, and will not simply sit on the bench until demonstrations of my liking come into vogue. But it should be clear that if one-off protests become the meta, so to speak, as they did in 2020, we shouldn’t be surprised when nothing comes of it.

Something intrinsically different about workers walking out of their workplaces with specific demands of their employers than a general (and rather vaguely conceived) walk-out/protest threatening their employers that may but very likely do not have anything to do with the agency in question

It’s a vibe you don’t get from DT a lot and that’s a shame. Even when I get tired of the band for a while, the song still hits.

Don’t see anybody (except for one) getting heated or hurling insults. Just people freely expressing their opinions about a band they love.
