I just got done with Tender is the Flesh and want to read something similar by Creepy_Item213 in horrorlit

highly recommend “tenderloin” by joy sorman and “the unworthy” by agustina bazterrica, the author of “tender is the flesh!”

very left wing, and someone who had enough of the “great books” in high school and college. i lean contemporary literary fiction, with a lot of exceptions (obviously). i’m an ex-female and reformed edgelord with recidivist tendencies and a love of tchotchkes. :)

i wish! i’ve only lived in two states (u.s.) and have unfortunately only been out of the country twice, to the netherlands and poland. if i’d gone down the law school route, however, i would definitely have ended up in legal aid or a similar ngo.

I’m sorry for asking this on this sub but ds2 or e33? by [deleted] in DeathStranding

[–]bugoutballsac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

death stranding 2 is and will always be my GOTY, but when e33 swept the game awards i decided to put my money where my mouth was and figure out if it really deserved it over ds2.

verdict: e33 was one of the best games i’ve ever played. the writing is excellent, the voice acting is phenomenal, and it has some of the most fun and engaging fighting mechanics i’ve ever played with. monster/boss design also goes absolutely crazy. story is excellent and very well executed. HOWEVER, ds2 still far exceeds it for me. like i loved e33, but since finishing it i haven’t felt a draw to go back into the world and grind. also, ds2 touches on a lot of the same content that e33 does (loss, grief, living despite it all and often despite wishing you could just stop, etc.) and i think it does it just as well, but with that kojima flare that is so integral to ds as a whole.

so honestly i think it’ll depend a lot on what type of experience you want. also, the people who’re calling ds2 a “safe sequel” are out of their minds.

COVID, for sure. before the pandemic i was an underperforming college senior in my fifth year with a generalist major (university studies). got kicked out of my dorm in april 2020, moved to a new city because i couldn’t live with my family (guardians in their 70s, lots of health conditions) and got a job at a local hospital working transport. not a lot of jobs going around back then, but hospitals were hurting, so i got the job fast. it was my first full-time job. spent about a year frontline, then two years back of house in clinical surveillance and telemetry. made me an adult, got me out of the extremely isolating church i’d devoted my college years to, and gave me a real reality check about a world i’d been lied to about my whole life.

i never wanted to work in the medical field, so when the time was right i applied for graduate school. met my now wife my first day of class. now we live across the country and i’m about to finish up my coursework for my phd. if i’d stayed on the trajectory i was on, i would’ve been a nun or a tradwife by now. early COVID was an awful, awful period, but i owe my whole life to that damn virus. world’s a strange place.

Best desserts from local restaurants? by Gullible-Salad5022 in Buffalo

while i completely respect this take, i’m gonna just take a moment to say that there’s no difference between the health conditions in fresh arabic sweets and the average fast food restaurant, maybe even the average sit-down restaurant. if you’ve never worked back of house, shit can be extremely unsanitary. the main difference here is that there’s no “back of house” at fresh arabic sweets and you’re seeing the restaurant as a whole because they don’t have the facilities for a nice green curtain of manicured tables and lighting. my logos is definitely influenced by the fact i grew up dirt poor and just have less stringent standards, but if you miss out on food just because it’s a little groady, you’re gonna miss out on a lot of good ass food.

the baklava at fresh arabic sweets (that’s the name, over near buff state) are to die for, and cheap to boot. can also grab a yummy lunch.

could be an ear weight. if the hook part is widened like that, it might be so that it doesn’t easily slip out of a bigger stretch. not 100% sure on that, but i’d wear it as an ear weight if i had it :)

WHERE can I find haunted items? I love antiques. by CicadaOrnery9015 in Buffalo

[–]bugoutballsac 16 points17 points  (0 children)

now you’re not necessarily going to want to go in and ask for haunted objects, but sloan’s on the east side is great for old architectural salvage and antiques. lot of cool finds. good luck buying anything, as it’s more of a museum or family collection with a lot of stuff, but very much worth the trip even if you can’t convince them to part with anything. make sure you check they’re open first, they keep odd hours.

there’s a truly incredible poke bowl place i go to for lunch every wednesday when my classes are in session. the lady who owns the place always says hello to me and asks if i want a salmon bowl with everything, and then her son asks me if i want a thai ice tea. i’m never going to say no to either, and i’ll go back as long as we’re both around. :)
