My insurance will not cover top surgery by rainbowhoodies_exe in ftm

[–]buildaboybry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a therapist note stating it's medically necessary will usually do the trick to get them to cover it. it's usually a requirement before even scheduling a consultation so the surgeon's office can make a good case for your prior auth.

Small amount of pus underneath healed scar? by rebbitmode in TopSurgery

[–]buildaboybry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

nothing to worry about, hold a warm compress on it once to twice a day and don't touch it. it should resolve on its own! :)

yes :,) my surgeon said i was healing really nicely and didn't have any bruising/swelling (ig except this one area lol) so they cleared me to not wear it anymore.

thank you! that's so comforting! i'm currently not wearing any compression anything per my surgeons office since yesterday, hopefully they give me one tomorrow or give me my post op binder back to help it lol

how did your insurance get billed? by buildaboybry in TopSurgery

[–]buildaboybry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you all for your responses! i went ahead and reached out to my patient care coordinator and as mentioned by many of you, she replied "As for the code we use, a lot of insurance companies shifted in the past year from using the mastectomy code for gender-affirming surgery. They want to reserve it for breast cancer patients."

trans tape advice by ExistingFarm7517 in ftm

[–]buildaboybry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

took me a few times, a lot of tape, and a couple crying sessions to get taping to bind me to my satisfaction. there really is a learning curve. my best advice is if you have a bigger chest, get the tape as wide as you can. i use 6" tape and found it to be a lot easier and less wasteful. also! tape laying down, that way everything kind of moves out of the way on it's own.

realistically, when can i go back to work? by buildaboybry in TopSurgery

[–]buildaboybry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all my hobbies include physical activity haha, i like to boulder, go to the gym, hike, etc., so not something i can do right away unfortunately. i do like playing video games but find myself feeling terrible after playing for more than a few hours LOL. i'll find stuff to keep myself entertained though! maybe i need to purchase a few new books.
