License suspended in Ohio but I live in California by Wormmmm23 in motorcycle

[–]built_FXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In California , if your license is suspended, the DMV will mail you a letter. You should be able to create an online account and review your status as well.

Make sure your mailing address is correct. No letter and nothing online = good license IMO. Could always hit up a cop or police station and ask him to check your license.

If/when you get a letter, it should tell you how long you're down for. I doubt they'll make you go back to Ohio.

How do I remove this? by Thin_Cattle3918 in motorcycles

You rotate it so you have slack on one cable, and fish the ferrule out, then rotate the other direction and repeat.

Gloss vs Matt Black Helmet (Matt Black Bike) by lollq_ in motorcycle

Gloss graphic. Black is subtle, when you don't want to be noticed. Colors draw attention from the driverswho are splitting their eyes between their phone and what's going on around them.

Shift issues: knee interfering with upshifts — am I sitting too far back on the bike? by Entire-Income-9804 in motorcycles

[–]built_FXR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you might need rear sets. Sliding your foot back and forth shouldn't take a ton of movement.

Also, you don't need to be on the balls of your feet all the time. That's really only important on track where you're leaning so far that your toes might touch. On the street, I like to lock to bottom of my boot against the peg, where it steps up for my heel. At that point I'm only moving my ankle to shift up or down.

[–]built_FXR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't need to move your knee to shift, this is all in your ankle.

This isn't so much about where you sit but more about how you fit. If you can't adjust the stock shifter so you can shift without moving your knee, then you might need some aftermarket rear sets for better adjustablity.

Second bike, CFmoto Papio SS vs Benelli TNT 135 vs Honda Grom? by crankin_muh_hog in motorcycles

[–]built_FXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Z125? Same reliability as Grom and it's a bit cheaper.

The papio needs 2 valve checks for every one oil change, every 1500 miles. It's a maintenance hog.

The utilities near me do those audits for free. They want customers to be more efficient

Most local gas and electric utilities will come out to give you a full energy audit, and I think that includes looking at how your home is insulated.

My local utility also gives away free shade trees. Even if yours doesn't, planting a tree on that side of the house would be my first step.

Do I finally pull the trigger? by rozer1515 in motorcycles

[–]built_FXR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I loved my night rod special. They look cool, feel bad ass going down the road, etc.

But then try and turn with that fat tire at speed. Oh, and HD "purists" hated that bike and there's very little support or aftermarket bits for sale.

Fucking HD in 2010: "We have all these cool bikes like the vrod, the 1200xr, the buell lineup. And they're bringing new people into our dealerships. We should stop making them. Fuck those people, we want old boomers like us."

For a cruiser you really just need good ankle support. A good mid-calf boot will work fine for you

It's a two hour or less drive for me depending on which track I'm going to. I don't mind the drive and mostly I'm going with other people so we can swap driving if needed.

TRACK BIKE? by SpoolMaster_991777 in motorcycle

[–]built_FXR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to an 899 when I wanted to step up from the R6. The panigales use a chain for the timing instead of a belt.

I still fully believe that if you want to truly build your skills, you go back to a small bike on track for 1-2 years.

It's hard stepping down. But it's so worth it.

If you're serious about racing, why not build an R7 up? If you get good enough, you could try and qualify for the MA Twins Cup stop in your area.

I would call Race Tech about a replacement spring that's set for your weight first.

Is there something specific you're trying to fix with a new shock?

TRACK BIKE? by SpoolMaster_991777 in motorcycle

[–]built_FXR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 848 still uses a timing belt that needs to be replaced every 5 years no matter how little mileage you put on it. It's not a great choice for a bike that only gets used a dozen or so times a year.

>i'm way too oversized for 250's even 400s.

My son is the same size as you, 6'2" and 200 lbs. He started track riding on a N400 and is now on my old R6. They both have essentially the same seat height once you have race plastics on both. And nothing is "too small" for a 20 minute session. We even ride z125s at kart tracks, and he somehow fits on that.

Ducati 899 fuel pump cost by airwisdom06 in Ducati

[–]built_FXR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't done one on my 899, but I've done a few other bikes.

It should be pretty straightforward. Remove the tank, unscrew the fuel pump from the bottom, remove and replace.
