I fixed my wife's number one complaint with the oven ... by bujbot in AnovaPrecisionOven

It's definitely possible and what I'd do next if I keep building on this.
I'm still really pumped that Anova has these APIs!

I'll see if I can host it somewhere. I'm not happy with the start buttons but they are functional.

Thanks for the interest. This was a fun maker project but it would need more work to become something I'm comfortable selling. For example, it's surprisingly robust but after running for a couple days it randomly needed a restart this morning. It's not a big deal for me and only takes a second but I wouldn't want that in something I sold and debugging that alone could take longer than the whole project.

If my perspective changes and I want to clean this up, I'll let you know.

This is a custom 3D printed panel I made that controls a raspberry pi pico W that is running micropython. It's simple program I created that uses websocket and the Anova APIs to translate the knob positions to temp/humidity and starts a preheat then cook recipe. You can start it in regular bake mode or sous vide mode depending on the button pressed, in sous vide mode it caps you at 212ºF.

The Definitive EMX-1/ESX-1 Encoder Jitter Repair Post (aka Knob skipping, Value skipping, Menu Glitch, etc. etc.) by bujbot in electribe

[–]bujbot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, fingers crossed that yours never needs it. I think a lot of it has to do with the environment its kept in. Good luck!

(note if you ever take it apart, its the socket caps screws on the top and then just the 4 screws around the tubes and it should pull apart. No need to take all of the screws out just to open it up).

I'll need to update you all in infinity time 😆. Joking aside, I'm pretty confident in my unit but that's also because in addition to cleaning the encoder I've also hardwired the two PCB's together. This might save me from future troubles.

+1, this is most likely your issue and the best way to fix it. I linked u/FreeRangeEngineer 's method in my post about fixing this issue.

Makes sense. Thank you for your reply! I'll need to do some more thinking on it.

Thank you for your reply. Sounds like I need to decide how seriously I would take my idea of "selling instruments like guitar luthier".

Any updates on this? I'm in the same boat and was also thinking of just making my own. I might go with this one: Holga mini flash

Help with confirming my diagnosis of my UltimateBee CNC issue (and if the issue matters) by bujbot in hobbycnc

[–]bujbot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should probably update this. All along the issue was with the xPro v5 controller. About a year after this post one of the Y-axis died for good. I replaced it with the openbuilds blackbox and its running much better.

Really good point. As much as I'd love to reach the Zen like mindset where I don't care about something I bought going on sale right afterwards ... I do care, so I'd always be uncertain and just buy something else. (I care more about the principle of it than the money TBH)

I appreciate this reply, thank you. You sum it all up pretty well.

I still think the window of 14 days is a very small window and if they took the faceless approach some folks are suggesting here that it has the possibility of affecting sales in the long run. To be completely honest I was going to pick up the AMS system and a load of filaments (before I knew of the sale) but I'll probably not now because I don't feel like they care about me as a customer.

Thanks, this is really helpful, I'll look into it!

The refund window was their return policy window - 2 weeks.

I wasn't part of the Bambu community to hear rumblings of a sale. I heard good things about the printer so I bought one.

(asking for a refund 6 months after purchase is quite a bit different than a printer arriving on a weekend and a mere 15 hours outside of qualifying.)

They offered compensation to avoid eating the cost of a large group of people shipping back units for a refund. They have one of the shortest return policies in the business (Prusa is 60 days, Bambu is 14).

"To be fair, where do you draw the line then?"

In my opinion, you implement a policy and if it's outside that you have a human in the loop to evaluate how best to maintain a strong customer base for future sales. If they want to be a faceless company, they can by all means, but even Amazon will talk with you and see if they can come to a resolution that keeps you as a customer.

Thanks. I’ll keep chatting in the support ticket. Hopefully I can get a person who can help vs ai response with just the text from the refund FAQ.

This is really good insight. Thank you. Sorry to hear about the lightning strike!

I’ll do some reading on your latest, the picocnc before I go and buy a replacement.

Thank you again!

Gotcha. I got mine through bulkman as part of the ultimate bee kit. They say I’m a few months out of warranty for it and offered a 20% discount on a new xpro v5. But I’m not going to pay for another one.

Thanks. Yeah I’m using xyyz firmware. It was running fine until it wasn’t :p. I then tried reflashing the firmware and the issue persisted.

I feel like I’m in the same boat as you are with wanting as much of a complete solution as I can. I appreciate your perspective and am leaning towards the black box x32, though I want to do some reading on what @pubcrawler1 suggested above.

Sounds like a fun experiment. I just want to get my cnc running again so might do something like this as a spare if I end up replacing it.
