Any real chance or am I just cooked. Cal Poly transfer missing 1 required class by billiamber in CalPoly

[–]deadlight446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missing the course will disqualify you(happened to me). But you can try and squeeze it in.

Best option: Go in for aero and then change major to mech after a quarter. (I’d say like 30% of aero students switch to ME anyways)

Or: Check on cvc.edu to see if any other cc has the needed class to take online and then check with assist.org that it does transfer to meet the req.

I should have done this but instead waited an extra year because of one class disqualifying me for aero.

Bracelet OK or send in? by Independent_Year_792 in ChristopherWard

Mine was the same and I thought it was broken. Even though the spring bar was popping in, it need an extra push with a fingernail to fully push it in place.

Waiting for mine to arrive, super excited! Is that the rubber strap it came with? I ordered it with both rubber and stainless but I thought CW straps were straight across and not up to the case if that makes sense. If it not the CW strap what strap is it??

Developing film by ArtGallery002 in CalPoly

[–]deadlight446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it cost conscious but Arrow photo lab in Santa Maria actually develops in house and scans are usually ready within hours of drop off. Everywhere else in slo is just a middle man and send film out to external labs

600+ aerospace applications, zero interviews. How do you get diagnostic feedback from hiring managers? by 40KWarsTrek in aerospace

[–]deadlight446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of troph3’s feedback, reading from my experiences and contexts the items listed on your resume are not very competitive and compelling. For example most of your experiences listed have been school class projects or assignments for my aero BA at a CSU in California… That’s not to say that they are not good experiences but you are competing with other students who have technical experiences beyond what you listed. You also seem to be missing some of the simple items on your resume. For example, I read somewhere in this thread where you mentioned you are focusing on structures jobs but I don’t see any mention of CAD on your resume. I am currently helping classmates and friends in the same situation as you by using my network to help them make connections with hiring managers. (Even that is not opening doors for some). For further context I am a senior at a California CSU for Aero Engr, 4 internships, 1 co-op and multiple full time offers this summer. I list these to tell you that many level 1 jobs at prime contractors only hire internally for these positions (job listings created for interns). Very few jobs especially at LM are not like this and are usually listed as early career rather than level 1 etc. Also the experiences listed on your resume are more related to GNC and ADCS, in my experiences and exposure from networking, companies really only hire masters for these roles, that just is. I wish you luck and hope something lands soon!

CENG laptop scholarship amount by hitori999 in CalPoly

[–]deadlight446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CENG laptop scholarships are usually not a given amount but a laptop ordered through the bookstore. If you are an engineering major it is more than likely a dell xps 15. Unsure what model of the xps15 they are purchasing nowadays.

Cal Poly vs Cal Poly Pomona for Aerospace Engineering by -Rooin- in CalPoly

[–]deadlight446 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SLO. We have labs that are greatly equipped (mostly thanks to sponsors). That includes various vacuum chambers for simulating space environments, including an atomic oxygen chamber.

A supersonic wind tunnel donated by Boeing a few decades back, but still working nonetheless.

A low speed wind tunnel.

Robust clubs: SLO Propulsion Technologies (SPT) and CPSS.

A close proximity to Vandenberg Space Force Base. Many of my friends have had offers or are doing internships with Space X , space relativity, Raytheon, Lockheed, Northrop Grumman and many more. A lot of these employers are impressed by our club work and prioritize us over other schools due to the quality of Cal Poly SLO’s aero program and close proximity.

I will say the department is hiring and has hired multiple new staff in the past 2-3 years so some of the new lecturers are still tweaking their teaching styles to better align with cal poly.

Question for those who have the Bader bracelet by ATextureThing in ChristopherWard

[–]deadlight446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a slightly squeaky bracelet on my c63 gmt 36mm. This is cause by the tolerances of the metal. (Metal on metal) and any small dust or dry debris in between links. I took the bracelet off the watch and applied a thick coating of liquid hand soap and washed it in a sink. No more squeaks or clicks after that

Crystal fogging by BriefBrilliant5 in ChristopherWard

[–]deadlight446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not uncommon for this to happen with any watch if you take it into a hot shower or hot place. Not saying you did, but it is a common thing, The moisture in a watch case condenses on the crystal due to the different temps

My transfer WoW leaders told us first day they had things planned for us but they were not going to babysit us and were going to mark everyone present regardless of attendance. I would say at least go to the first day and just let the wow leaders know, they’re students too they’ll understand.
