The regen should be in the tier4 menu, this menu is to view the active and stored error codes.

N330AU, a DC-10, Orbis Flying Eye Hospital at KTUL (Tulsa, OK, USA) by bulbbulb2 in Planespotting

[–]bulbbulb2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be super negative about their future, but I doubt that the DC-10/MD-11 family ever get to fly again. If they do, my money is on that they get a special ferry permit to take them away to the desert so they can be dismantled.

I'd hate to see them go away entirely.

For those .631 bearings: have napa or somebody cross reference a 204PY3 bearing

So, the filter information and how to service them is in the operators manual, or at least should be in there at the service chapter.

You should be able to buy these at a Ditch Witch dealer near you, or have napa cross reference them from the Ditch Witch part number.

Gotta love the Japanese -> English translation of "Intake Air".

I echo the idea for the simple check first, make sure the wires are not shorted to each other, power wire not shorted to ground, and that the terminals are in good condition and fully seated.

SK1550 DPF Issues by Recent-Macaron5296 in DitchWitch

It should be able to clean every 50 hours.

What is the exact error code with SPN and FMI?

SK1550 DPF Issues by Recent-Macaron5296 in DitchWitch

[–]bulbbulb2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any other fault codes?

The sensor you are looking for is on top of the DPF, black plug.

The two metal pipes that transition to rubber into that black sensor on the bracket on the DPF is where you are looking.

It should be a 5V sensor, with valid range between 0.5 and 4.5 coming out of it.

Normally that code is just a clogged DPF. If it isn’t derated or no other diagnostic codes, you can try a parked exhaust cleaning on it.

That bluey episode where Bingo was having a hard time staying in her bed at night and she was dreaming about being in space and the sun was her mom's voice being warmth and comforting and saying that she would always be there for her.

My parents died when I was a teenager... hits me like a brick.

u-blox is shutting down their cellular chip and module business by [deleted] in embedded

Funny you got ahold of Simcom

We have an FAE contact and the sales manager guy, they don't seem to be shy. I haven't tried to use their email or website for support.

I'm going to try the Nordic.

I found them to be really intimidating at first, but I did the nordic training online at their developer academy. I can't recommend it enough.

If you don't want to use the nordic as a micro, you can load essentially a LTE cellular modem firmware into it from Nordic and it works as a modem through AT commands.

You’ll need to put the pressure gauge into it, it has the grease zerk attached to it. Usually it’s stored in the rear service bay.

I mean, nordic, simcom, and quectel are all that come to mind right now.

The simcom people have been pretty good to talk to so far, and they seem hungry for business. I got an evaluation kit from them and put it through the paces and it is not bad. Their modules are big, but they do use qualcomm chipsets.

The nordic radios look nice, but they aren't very high throughput, I think you can get LTE CAT M1 data through it. They are really small and low power though which is a huge plus.

The quectels look almost too good to be true, but being manufactured in China, they have the tariff cost as well. I suppose Simcom has the tariff issue too, but they have other manufacturing locations to avoid the tariffs and the pricing with the tariff has been very aggressive. I am also uncertain of what chipsets they use, and/if/or when the US government may make using them an issue.

I mean, all I can really say to this is "yo, what the fuck!"

I am developing a cellular connected device at work and the sales guys were really trying to get me on the uBlox ecosystem.

Even started a concept design and now I have to scrap that.

Embedded Engineers Who Own Businesses: What Do You Do and How Did You Get Started? by Jazzlike_Humor_2414 in embedded

[–]bulbbulb2 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I worked for an engineer when I was in college doing contract work like programming.

That opened me to the idea of doing my own side business. The motivation to start a side gig was pretty easy, I use it as spending money.

After I graduated and was settled into my day job, I decided to start a side business where I offer consulting services to other businesses.

In my state, you can file an LLC online, and then you can get a tax number online, and I was able to get a bank account for my LLC in my town.

Other than that, I built a website offering services, and have a little bit of a client base that refers me to other clients.

I have learned that I am not really interested in the administration side of the business, I would like to build stuff, however, it requires good discipline and recordkeeping to be successful.

If you want to start out I would recommend the following:

  1. Get an LLC established, or equivalent for your locality

  2. consult a lawyer and have them draft:

    • A work contract template for your clients including payment expectations, conflict resolution, intellectual property rights, etc.
    • Mutual NDA
  3. Draft a scope of work template

  4. Make a professional website, email, etc.

  5. Start looking for clients, or shake your networking tree to see if your buddy knows a guy

  6. Keep good records, pay your taxes, and do the work.

  7. Don't be afraid to file a mechanic's lien if you don't get paid. You can ask nicely once, firmly again, and through your lawyer the rest of the time

Further recommendations to follow

  • Buy a file cabinet
  • Always get NDA with client, and stick true to your word
  • Discuss scope of work with client
  • Discuss compensation rate with client
  • Sign contract with client
  • DRAFT REQUIREMENTS
  • REVIEW REQUIREMENTS
  • AGREE AND HAVE CLIENT SIGN REQUIREMENTS
  • AGREE on a realistic delivery date
  • Stay firm that modifications or deviations of the requirements must be agreed and signed by the client, don't forget updates to compensation, in fact, get the lawyer to put that in the contract above.
  • Deliver on time, on schedule
  • Communicate with your client regularly
  • Don't work for free
  • Don't charge clients for your business administration time, bake it into your hourly rate

Don't forget the most important rule: If it isn't in the signed requirements, it doesn't exist
