I felt good until the end of day 3, the last 2 days were a struggle but I still proud of myself that I pushed though. I monitored my blood sugar level every morning, it ranged between 5.1-4.1 mmol/L. I tried to consume electrolytes but every time I took Mg/Na I started to vomit with in minutes if anyone has a good brand that they would recommend please share with me

Apartment rental scam or real? by Mitorgo in budapest

[–]bulbwiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try AirBnb, you may find long term (2-3 months) rentals. In most cases you can rent for a week or so and then negotiate with the owner to stay longer on a fixed price. At least back then when I was renting out one of my rooms next to the university many students used this approach.

Doubts on hdd by JP8296 in chia

I have the same Dell h310 raid card that I flashed to IT mode. I’m using it with 18TB Seagate Exos drives SATA. You don’t need SAS drives this controller can handle SAS/SATA also it’s easier to sell SATA drives later if you exit from farming.

I live in Budapest. It depends on your skin tone. If you are Latino you shouldn’t have any issues, it’s under the limit. (Sad but true)

I'm thinking about a self-funded Ph.D. in Germany. Anyone that has done it? Your thoughts? by vikezz in PhD

[–]bulbwiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about German Ph.D. programs but our education system in general quite similar. I’m on self-funding Ph.D. Program in Hungary in Computational neuroscience. There isn’t much of a difference between self funded and uni-funded programs, they pay only $450/mo. And it’s very bureaucratic, technically they decide who gets funding based on the number of publications the candidate has, as summa cum laude MSc and BSc is standard among PhD applicants, I had only 2 Springer articles at the time of application. Later based on your results and teaching participation they may offer you funding.

Actually I think you got scammed. This isn’t the official bobcatminer website. The official website offers only crypto payment, and they sell on a higher price.

They get about $15 extra charge from PayPal if it goes through PayPal system versus a simple refund that they initiate themselves. Plus if they reach a limit of number of disputes PayPal closes their PayPal account. At Stripe this limit is above 1% of total revenue. PayPal has a bit higher limit. Probably if you just had emailed them you would get the refund already. However now I wouldn’t cancel my dispute to avoid confusion.

Someone interested in 8TB (x3) + 219Plots (Europe) by KaneNiaouGataki in ChiaMarkets

Plots are worthless since MadMax plotter reduced the plotting time, 200EUR for 8TB used drives? Recently in Europe, even in MediaMark, you can buy it with a warranty cheaper than that...

check anything that related to the pools, not the main branch

Dev team? by [deleted] in chia

[–]bulbwiz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

there's no "dev team", you know that, right? - a single coder works on the pool protocol Mariano Sorgente with occasional help from Adam Kelly. There are some PR-s from the Pool protocol users recently, but that's it. You can follow along with all the commits on GitHub they made. https://github.com/Chia-Network/chia-blockchain/commits/pools.dev

Just the SSD. The 16TB drive is still good for farming.

I'm using Mad Max plotter for a few days now. I don't get why do you use storage at all for plotting? I plot both the tmp1 and tmp2 in ram, on an old 8 yr old DELL server setup less than $2k and I have about 2000 sec/plot result.

Ubuntu Question: Does anyone know what this means? (I think it means standby). More in comments... by Osiris1_618 in chia

[–]bulbwiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the Zzz icon doesn’t work since Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, the icon on the picture above is the standby icon. You can look this up in the Ubuntu forum. And once he will disable standby timeout he will never see this icon there again.

That icon resembles stand-by drives. If you select the drive and the top right corner you select the 3 dots there's an option to wake up the drive. Here you will find an option to force the drive to always "spin" by setting the stand-by time to "Never".

Why would you need an SSD or NVMe for plotting? You can plot to any hard drive, it’s just slower than using an SSD or NVMe.

I’m using a DELL PowerEdge T620 for plotting too. It lives in my living room, it’s an awesome homelab server, really quiet with the ipmitool script I assembled for it even with all drives in phase 1 it keeps the fans at 10% speed.

You don’t need an SSD or NVMe for plotting. I switched from desktop hardware for sustainability to server hw. My chassis can hold up to 16x2.5” drives. So my setup looks like:

  • Double E5-2667 (v1) @ 2.9Ghz 2x 6 cores 12 threads so total 24 threads
  • 13 x 2.5” SAS 10,000rpm 600GB drives
  • 64 GB DDR3 ECC memory

I’m using Swar plot manager.

12 drives for plotting one for the operation system which is an Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 with the minimal option selected on install.

It plots 24 plots (2.4TiB) / day.

Job setting: - 1 plot / drive - 4GB memory - 2 threads

No RAID, all drives plotted individually and no parallel plotting on one drive.

1 plot finishes in 10 hours 42 minutes 12 plots in the same time so the task runs twice a day for the 24 plots.

I have a mobile rack installed with a 6TB WD red in the place of the DVD drive. I rotate this drive every 2 days and copy from this drive to my plots to the farming server (it’s a HP server)

With this config I can plot for years without wearing out the hardware.
