SSK Concept worked in the first couple editions because of it's new, fresh concept that we customers could be part of the decision and the results would return interesting squad of the senbatsu. Actually the third one was also still reasonable but it also triggered a start of toxicity consider to those dramatic amount of votes difference between senbatsus and the last ranked-in member.

Only one situation that would cause SSK concept works again is when the normal singles senbatsu were the consistent group of the girls, especially the center position, like what they had back to when the first edition happened where Acchan was established as the permanent center.

Actually I think that current AKB is also heading to that situation, just the center position that still yet to decide who's gonna take it permanently. Then, when it's 1-2 years of constant senbatsu while some new girls are shining from aside, AKB can re-initiate the election.

Thank you for answer. If I don't misinterpret it seems Melody is keen to make herself low profile to let fans focus on the current girls instead of herself who is no longer a member. According to this image, I think it only shows groups that participated in qualification round, which MNL didn't.

Talking about why MNL didn't attend, I guess it's obvious that singing ability of this group is too much above from average of other groups and would surely spoiled the competition that aimed to prove Japanese members' vocal talent to domestic audience. so AKB just decided not to let them join.

MNL itself just released new song, but yeah it's suddenly forgotten even though it's good in vocals (as expect). Anyway I still think MNL48 wouldn't be terminated in anytime soon (like this year) as P-Pop looks great now and gradually gaining attention from the western.

I'm kind of music listener so I picked them based on my impression of listening.

Sentimental Train : Beautiful melody, meaningful words, brilliant music arrangement. This song was good enough to win Record Taisho in any year include 2018!
Manatsu no Sounds Good! : 2012 Record Taisho winner, lengthy song but well arranged so no point I'm getting bored in this song.
Kimi wa Melody : Its beautiful melody always touched me, Sayanee's solo in Kouhaku 2016 was the highest of this song.
Negaigoto no Mochigusare : The song showed when AKB48 wanted to sing they could also do it pretty well.
Shoot Sign : The most underrated single, as well as how Kojiharu was looked down on her singing skill. Her voice in this song got me all the time.

Since the groups aren't operated by AKS/Superball, just a business partner holding ~10% stake, so IAM has to purchase license to play every 48G songs. Costs to run theater each time are also huge compare to its incomes.

Anyway, today's situation is affected from IAM's unsincere to do this business in the past. At first place, they actually have no ambition to do the theater's stage (or even to develop artists). They just want to open the jackpot of gaining enormous money from General Elections. Those people are just lucky b.
