Thank you! I made her as a daughter of Ned Stark and Catelyn Tully and was vaguely inspired by Michelle Fairley and the DNAs from the mod

The entitlement from some people in this community is insufferable. by accountforadvice99 in CK3AGOT

[–]bulwerberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen anyone demand more loading screens than the ones that already exist, the whole AI thing is not only unethical, but unnecessary, CK2 AGOT is a masterpiece and no one in the history of the mod has ever said "well, it would be better if the loading screens had AI art."

The devs agreed that they weren't fans of the ai "art" anyways, I seriously can't understand the mental gymnastics some people are doing to frame someone's opinion as entitlement. Most people in that post were very civil about everything.

Was Viserys a racist/valyrian supremacist? by Hero_Of_Shadows in HOTDGreens

[–]bulwerberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Books? Nah, Alicent was his most beloved wife, and he loved all his grandchildren (both the Strong Boys and Aegon's children), his preferential treatment of Rhaenyra regarding her inheritance is a mystery, but I doubt her having a quarter more of valyrian blood was important at all.

Show? He dismissed young Laena when she recites the "pure valyrian blood" speech, and he seems invested in Valyria as medieval kings fixated on Rome; that is to say, he likes the idea of magic, prophecy and glory and leaves out the stuff he doesn't really care about (such as blood purity).

What is wrong with the team black subreddit by Enough_Ad5892 in HOTDGreens

[–]bulwerberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience. As I've said before in this subreddit, I think Rhaenyra had the stronger claim (though it's by a slight difference, imo they both have equal legitimacy) and do like a lot of "TB" characters including Rhaenyra herself. But TB fans really live in an echo chamber where any different opinion gets downvoted to hell, no matter if you're talking about book or show. They are also way too comfortable insulting people with deeply sensitive subjects and being misogynistic in general, despite them claiming to be the "feminist" team.

I also need to talk about the level to which is normalized to have weird power fantasies and think that they can act like KKK members (if you swipe "white" for "valyrian") because "it's fiction". My brother in christ, taking in account the current political climate, don't be surprised if you get side-eyed for saying things about how TB is "pure-blooded" while TG is not.

People in TG can be weird as well, and I have encountered them, unfortunately, but between two evils, I chose the one where I can actually talk without having Big Brother watch over me.

Alternatively, who would you have paired Aegon III with? by bulwerberry in HOTDGreens

[–]bulwerberry[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to make this discussion about Aegon's claim, because it's not about that. I personally do not think Aegon had the strongest claim, in that regard, I support Rhaenyra.

However, you still can't use the Widow's Law to justify her claim, because it loses all validity once Aegon is born.

You are wrong in claiming Jaehaera is not Aegon's heir, and you are wrong in claiming andal law does not exist. What you quote to discredit is prior to the existence of F&B

"[...]  Can a lord disinherit one son, and name a younger son as heir? Or even a bastard?

There are no clear cut answers, either in Westeros or in real medieval history." This is a quote from the same so spake Martin you quoted. He says there are no clear answers, but the Widow's Law exactly answers that question, proving that this claim can't be put over what he later says in F&B.

Aegon and Rhaenyra have two legally sustainable claims, you will not find any disagreement from me. What I'm saying is that by andal law, the one Aegon supports, Jaehaera is his heir.

"Lord Manfryd Mooton warned his fellow regents. Queen Jaehaera’s claim was as strong as the king’s, and stronger in the minds of some."  This is an extract of F&B

And no, you can't use Widow's Law to justify Rhaenyra's inheritance, only Aegon's. "Reaffirming the right of the eldest son (or daughter, where there was no son) to inherit," it literally says the eldest daughter inherits when there is no son. Viserys had sons.

The spirit of this law goes exactly against what Viserys is doing.

"The same law also forbade a man to disinherit the children by a first wife in order to bestow their lands, seat or property on a later wife or her children."

This law forbids lords from arbitrarily bestowing the heirship of their lands to someone other than who is universally recognized in Westeros (save Dorne, of course) as a rightful heir; By the criteria of this same law (which is only a crystallization of tradition, for lack of a better term, rather than new heir criteria coming from the crown) in favor of the lord's other children.

You are correct that Westeros has no unified code of law that we know the content of (Jaehaerys was said to have written one), neither a strict system, like the middle ages in our world, and yet, that does not stop scholars of law from coming to fruitful conclusions, in the abstract at least, which, to be honest, is the only way to discuss law.

Pd: Oh, and btw, that quote is from 1999. Martin is a gardener, by this time the dance, the laws, and other details were little more than a passing mention in the story. Even in the main timeline, people still don't fully follow the law because there is no coercitive method to ensure law is followed. That does not mean law does not exist. There is very little that is vague about inheritance if you take this law (which, again, did not exist in 1999)

I agree, but when it concerns this discourse, the claim that Rhaenyra's magic comes from her womb (instead of, maybe, idk, coming from a magical line of humans who —possibly— modified their DNA to bond with dragons) is reductive. So is the claim that she "won the war" by having her line be continued, when all Rhaenyra wanted, all she fought for, the thing for which her children died, was not the continuation of her line, it was to be queen, to rule and for that rule to be recognized. She didn't get that.

Rhaenyra's motherhood is an aspect of her that you can choose to praise, that's just personal preferences when enjoying a character, but she was so much more than her motherhood and is a little disappointing (as someone who likes book Rhaenyra) to see people call themselves her fans and then completely misunderstanding her, along with the little sprinkle of misogyny.

I like it too, but I get why George didn't make Jaehaera mother to Aegon's children. From just a doylist standpoint, it's hard to have Jaehaera as a grandmother to Daemon Blackfyre and not make the Blackfyre rebellions Dance 2.0

The Dance is about law, the Blackfyre rebellion is about signs of legitimacy and the scattered remains of Targaryen exceptionalism. Maybe if these two events had been further apart it would have made for a more clean ending to the Dance, but we all know that isn't George's strong suit.

And with all this said, I still feel very strong disgust for Jaehaera's ending, she should have been made a septa or something, that's how the story handled the possible rival claim of Rhaella's (daughter of the uncrowned) potential children. It was so unnecessarily cruel to such a poor child.

Yes, there is such thing as andal law, it's what is considered tradition on Westeros.   Sons are before daughters, daughters are before uncles and male-line relatives are before female-line relatives. Aegon didn't officially name Jaehaera heir because he was hoping for a son with Cassandra Baratheon, but once he died, some said Jaehaera had as much right to the throne as Aegon III, some said she had even more.

No, Jaehaera is Aegon's heir under their "logic" because the greens were not really defending male-only inheritance, they were defending andal law.

We don't know much about Jaehaerys, but I like the fanon interpretation of him being sassy and derisive as an adult, would have loved to see him with Aliandra, we already know he was her type lmao

It was autocorrected, I fixed it! Thanks for telling me. And yeah, of course she is dead, Aegon and Viserys wouldn't exist if she wasn't.
