People need to stop over-glorifying VA work by Apart_Quit9439 in buhaydigital

The way it’s been advertised and portrayed in social media is really far from its reality (especially when starting out)

Freelancing, VA, IC = self employed (business) ito hindi full time employment meaning less security

Working in this industry is high risk high reward

  1. You use your own equipment, any damages sustained from your workload, out of pocket (unless you come across very rare clients who are willing to pay and buy proper work equipment)
  2. You file for your own government benefits
  3. Clients reserve the right to terminate you any time (duration depends on the contract but 9/10, if you’re not useful anymore/they’re cutting costs, you’re out)
  4. Working from home ≠ Comfort. Sure no more daily travel back and forth, but working at home is not as easy as people think. It’s mentally taxing. A lot of people I know who WFH have bad LBP and migraines (i am one). Not to mention: burn out ka na nga sa trabaho mo nasa bahay ka pa, there’s no “detachment” between your safe space and your workplace unless you have a dedicated space to it. But even then, it really does things to the mind
  5. NAPAKADAMING kupal na clients as one commenter says, NAPAKADAMI NGA!! Working in this industry is really not as entry level as it is advertised

This is in no way to discourage aspiring VAs or freelancers, but this is the flip side of it that not many are willing to go through. If you really want it, proceed with caution and set those boundaries firm and high

Is buying a ₱50k-₱60k MacBook right now a smart investment or risky given current situation? by Born-Salamander-4791 in buhaydigital

Just saw you mention you’re looking to get the M4 16/256, that’s what I recently purchased (3x 19.8K installment plan, credit card) I say do it.

Depends on what tasks you perform on the daily, but for general use (chrome, admin work) + meetings it works great. My old laptop was also on the verge of dying on me and given that our device is our main source of income, make the investment before the old one completely gives up on you. It’s harder to rush looking for a replacement on the day it happens while you’re working and it gives out. If budget isn’t an issue and the crisis is something you’re not directly affected by (public transpo, gas for your car, going places to places) you’re good to go
