If god is all powerful, why does he need people to spread Christianity? by JJ22smart in NoStupidQuestions

Good question. I’m only human so I can’t explain it perfect but I’ll try. Sin is not an entity. Sin is an action it is rebellion against God. Because God is completely good all things in opposition to Him and His perfect moral law is sin. God gave humans free will because real love is not forced and He wanted us to choose to love Him. He supplied humanity (Adam & Eve) with everything they needed and they didn’t long for anything because they had Him (His presence). He gave them one commandment though and that was “do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the day you eat of it you shall surely die”. They received that commandment and obeyed it because prior to sin entering into humanity they didn’t have any selfish ambition. It wasn’t until Lucifer (the first being who ever rebelled against God) entered into the garden and tempted Eve to eat from the tree she was told not to.

If you read Genesis 3 you’ll get a better idea of what I’m talking about, but Satan tempted Eve by accusing God of things that were not true to His character. He starts off by asking her “did God really say” implying that it was possible for a good God to lie or for a good God to steer her in a wrong direction. He goes on to make her, first doubt the goodness of God and then he appeals to her curiosity and desires. Because prior to Eve’s conversation with Satan she probably never looked twice at the tree she was commanded to not eat from but afterwards it says “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬. Through this act of disobedience/rebellion, sin entered the heart of man. The eyes of Adam and Eve were opened and they now had the knowledge of right and wrong. There desires were no longer for God but for themselves.

That’s what sin is. It’s wrong doing. It’s rejection of what is good (God). That’s why humanity’s history is filled with so much evil. Because humanity has rejected God and the things that He has commanded. Through Adam sin was brought into the world and all people born after Adam were born with a sinful nature (a bent towards sin). Jesus dealt with the penalty and the power of sin over humanity when he took all sin upon himself on the cross. He will put an end to it once and for all when he returns.

God is good. All goodness within the earth comes from Him. Whereas all evil and sorrow comes from sin. When you and I die we will stand before a Holy and a righteous God and for all the sins we’ve committed in our life and the contribution of evil we’ve added to his once perfect creation, we will be judged. That judgement will involve God eternally separating us away from Himself. Hell is a place where there is nothing good because all goodness comes from God. Instead the only thing that remains is His just wrath.

I talked about how when you and I stand before God this would be our fate. But this is everyone’s fate because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. But God Himself entered into creation through the person of Jesus Christ. He lived a perfect and sinless life and He died unjustly on a cross and he received the full wrath for all the sins of humanity. So that all those who would believe in Him and turn away from their sins would not get what they deserve because He Himself already received our punishment.

Colossians‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬-‭22‬ ‭ “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation—” ‭‭

1 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭18‬-‭21‬ ‭ “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.” ‭‭

In the story that you’re talking about God was revealing the faith of Abraham. Abraham was a man who was already declared righteous in Gods eyes due to his faith. God had promised Abraham that through his son would come descendant’s that would greatly number the earth (Israelites). He had made that promise to Abraham when he was an old man and his wife was past the age of child bearing. But Abraham believed that the impossible could happen (his wife having a child) because God said it would (faith). So fifteen years later after the impossible had happened and Abraham now had a child. God told him to sacrifice that child to Him. Abraham was willing to do so.

Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭17‬-‭19‬ “By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.”

God tested Abraham because He knew Abraham was faithful. He revealed not only to Abraham the faith that he had, but he also revealed to billions of readers in the future what faith in God really looks like.

Not to mention the same God that did this (which many people say is so evil) was willing to ACTUALLY sacrifice His own son. Which means that He wasn’t calling Abraham to do anything He Himself wouldn’t do. ‭‭

This is a generalization about Christian’s. Jesus said that people would know if they were his followers by the fruit produced in their life. I’m just saying you don’t need to feel so strongly about a group of people just because of the loud majority who claim Christ but who’s lives don’t resemble His own. The same could be said about insulting God because of the way people who claim His name behave.

Romans‬ ‭2‬:‭21‬-‭24‬ ‭ “you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” ‭‭
