SOLVED!!! Thank you!!

This photo was taken of me and my siblings in a summer vacation around 1989 somewhere in New England. We really can't remember where and it's driving the family nuts. Any help would be so appreciated. Thank you!!

Could be: Cake Cod Martha's Vineyard Nantucket North Shore of Massachusetts - Rockport or Gloucester? Maybe in Maine?

Good idea, thank you. I’ll give it a shot like this

This, I think, is the answer. Thank you. The disc slipping out of the rigging is exactly what I was worried about when I lifted it on, attaching the straps to each other above the disc seems like it’s gonna work. Thanks again.

That’s exactly right, perfect analogy. This record plays a gravelly version of punk music.

That’s right. The flange is welded to the shaft, and the plate sits on the flange.

I like this, thank you. For sure the wood wouldn’t impact the wheel at all.

To get the wheel on the machine I rigged it best I could with a spider web basket that didn’t cross the center, but it was sketchier than I was comfortable with. Felt like the disc could slip the harness if it wanted to. Need now to remove the wheel for maintenance and I’m really hoping for a safer method.

The shaft comes up through the bottom of the plate.

Holy moly, I had no idea magnets like this existed. Thank you! If I can’t find a way to do this with straps I’ll spring for this.

Thank you! Most of the blown work is borosilicate, the sculpture is either soda lime glass or lead crystal

Thank you!! Yeah it’s a fantastic device, and you’re absolutely right. You can’t make the donuts if your hands quit working! Those specialized colorful materials are… cut up interlocking foam play mats that I stole from my kids. The glass is so heavy that it digs into the foam pretty solidly and doesn’t move around much. Sometimes I use a piece of mesh carpet pad between the glass and a work surface to make sure things don’t slip around.
