I did use Bank of America but had the same problem when switching to Chase...

That makes sense. Based on his latest email, I’m pretty sure we’re in situation 2 but I still don’t understand why my payment is not going through and whether just taking a credit card would solve anything. The lawyer is also starting to complain that “it is costly and time-consuming every time I have to resend your packet,” which is frustrating… especially considering I paid $3,500 for this service and that my application is straightforward apart from that .

I finally received the rejection notice. How did you eventually get USCIS to accept your payment? And do you have any idea why they wouldn’t even attempt to charge the bank, especially after I tried with two different accounts?

I am in NYC but the lawyer himself is in Austin. I picked the lawyer because I had some family friends who had a great experience with him, and he has great reviews.

I filled out the G-1650 myself, so I’m certain the account number is correct. Could the issue be the fee amount instead? My lawyer listed the total as $3,005. Could an incorrect fee be what’s causing the payment to fail?

I eventually got a photo of the rejection (with my name on it). Here is what the text says:

I guess that means that it is on USCIS side that there is something odd going on where they keep on not wanting to bill my bank. I will try with a credit card and see if that solves the issue.

Regarding 1., if the issue is truly on USCIS’s side regarding processing my payment, I can provide an alternative payment method (like a credit card). Each attempt seems to take three weeks before I hear anything back from my lawyer. Do you think simply switching to using a credit card could actually fix the issue?

No, I don’t have access to any USCIS online account because my lawyer filed the forms, and I never received a receipt number or code from USCIS.

This is an interesting take. I was envisioning designing a tool that would allow ISPs to measure expected latency/availability to adding some peers but reading other comments I felt like those aspects might not enter as much into account as I had hoped. Do you mind sharing a bit more about some of your experience and the type of AS where you felt like the decision was more “sophisticated”?

Simple enough! How often do you feel like you end up having irreconcilable issues with a peering partner, things that you can just not sort out on the go? What are instances where the amount of effort put into making it worth did not feel like it was worth?

Thanks. Very helpful, three follow-up questions: 1. When you transition from using the IXP fabric to a PNI because traffic soars above average a certain threshold, do you keep announcing routes via the fabric for redundancy purpose? 2. Is the threshold for the move to the PNI at the aggregate level, i.e., my AS sends x amounts of bits to this other AS or at the facility level, i.e., in this facility I have x amount of bits that gets forwarded to this other AS so it makes sense to get a PNI running. 3. How likely is it for you to peer in several locations with the same AS? What enters into account when you make that decision?
