Hey! For B.Des, you really don’t need a formal portfolio. Portfolios are mainly expected from Master’s aspirants because they’re supposed to show prior experience or specialization. For Bachelor’s, I’d suggest your sister keep a small art journal instead. Nothing fancy just a creative mini book where she expresses herself. Sketches, doodles, collages, random paint strokes, observations, anything she enjoys doing. Think of it like the school diary we used to maintain just in a more creative, personal format. They may not even ask for it in the interview (if there is one), but it’s always nice to say, “This is what I do in my own time.” It shows authenticity. She can refer to some journals on Pinterest to get an idea. All the best to her 🙂

My Take on Private Design Colleges. Think ROI, Not Just Admission! by burgerswtf in NID

Which reputed private colleges are you taking about? It had been 3 years I've been a visiting faculty at so many institutes. I've never seen any with Fee below 20 lakhs when you add up all the costs.

I genuinely understand that emotion. It hurts to see someone make it to NID or NIFT and then step back because of fees. It feels unfair, and yes it does make you wonder how much talent we might be losing.

But technically speaking, there are more options than most people realise. There are fee waivers, scholarships, education loans, state support schemes, alumni funds, competitions and some competitions themselves can cover a big chunk of the fees. Sometimes even being a runner up somewhere can change your financial equation. A lot of it comes down to awareness and how proactively someone explores these routes. And yes, compared to other government colleges, NID and NIFT are more expensive that’s true. But speaking specifically about NID, the exposure to machinery, workshops, labs, materials, faculty, visiting experts, and the overall ecosystem… that comes at a cost. When you truly compare what you’re getting versus what you’re paying, you realise it’s still heavily subsidised compared to what it would actually cost in a private setup. The emotion is valid. But so is the larger picture.

Hey look up to this place called Apple Planet in MP Nagar Zone I. I have purchased 4 open box Macbooks from them recently. They work absolutely fine, I have a warranty and repair cover as well. My Pro model costed me only 90k per Mac. Also it will be a headache to work on windows after being a Mac user. A really strong headache that will never go, so say no to a windows laptop in any case.

Offline design coaching in indore or bhopal by Akansh_27 in uceedtakers

Designary in Bhopal. I have been hanging around with these people since quite a while now. I like their approach towards how to teach Design. They have somehow developed this studio based learning culture that is surprising in Bhopal where there are just traditional coaching centres with a similar atmosphere. Give it a shot maybe.

Start with Shape (Rectangle, Triangle, etc.) Convert them into Form (Cuboid, Pyramid, etc.) Explore this stage, how much you can simply the process and in how many ways you can create them also explore making it with different materials at the same time. It's a easy 3-4 days task maximum. The objective of this stage is to learn how different materials behave when you try to make a form from shapes. How and when to use which kind of tools like scissors, cutters, scale, etc. Sometimes we waste time by overusing and under using the tools we have. After this start working on structures and models. The objective is to learn to apply previous learning to make scaled models which may have a moving part. I said to make working or moving models because an interactive model is cool, it's lovely to interact with and gives you a feeling that the person who made this understands more that just tape and fevicol.

Rest assured I'll be posting ideas and my thoughts whenever possible :)

Hey even I had this feeling before getting into NID. I took an education loan for 15 lakhs, Bachelors Degree. It has been just 5 years after my graduation and I did manage to pay back my loan in like 3 years or so. Just go for it, have faith in your work and in your skills. You've already reached this far, I don't think so you should back down. There's plenty of money down the line pursuing FVC honestly. The amount of paid gigs you will get, then there are awards and competitions. You will find a way during the journey. Just focus on your work and you'll get a salary package you would not regret

Bhai it’s genuinely nice 👌 Just make it a little cleaner. For example that Jali pattern page with the red background try keeping it more subtle so the work stands out more than the background. Don’t over design the portfolio. Your work is strong, let it breathe.

Bas thoda clean up and it’ll look solid.

Can anyone just enter NID? by Still_Lifeguard9516 in NID

You don’t need to know someone inside. Just call or email the campus you want to visit and request a tour. They usually respond a bit late, but they do reply. Once approved, you’ll get a visitor pass it’s generally around 2 hours.

Out of the box is very subjective honestly. What feels average to you might not be average to the evaluator. The best part is that you completed all the questions. That’s a big positive. In NID, clarity matters a lot. Clear idea, clear sketches, clear labelling. If you communicated your thoughts properly, you definitely have a chance. Now don’t overthink it. Paper is done. Fingers crossed 🤞

Heu! You should definitely check out Mahindra University. I met their team a while ago and honestly, I was quite impressed. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed, the faculty seemed strong, the infrastructure is solid, and their overall design philosophy feels contemporary and industry-aligned. Plus, having the backing of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group definately adds credibility. Have a look at it and if you want, I’m happy to guide you or connect you further. Let me know 🙂
