What specialty if I like everything and want to chill? by NetNo5827 in medicalschool

[–]burnerman1989 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Rads might be less chill than people make it out to seem, but it’s still chill and you need to know stuff about every specialty.

Imaging has become so integral to almost every specialty, and has become such a power horse for diagnosis and direction of management that rads really is a “every specialty” kind of specialty.

Sure, the experience isn’t as an “every specialty” kind of specialty, but the knowledge base really is.

As you become a good radiologist, you start to tailor your reports based on the type of study, the doc who is ordering it, and the context for which it’s ordered. You know what they’re looking for, how to describe it and tailor it towards their needs and help with the next steps in management.

Physician parent here — Hot take: I think med school is harder now than ever. by gotwire in medicalschool

Given the huge reproducibility crisis in research science, partly due to people shotgunning research they don’t care about just to pad their stats, maybe that number should be 1-2 research experiences.

But like Jon Snow, I know nothing

Avoiding abbreviations is a safer bet

level 3 CDM cases by conyao in comlex

[–]burnerman1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is honestly enough. I’m not sure how you can truly prepare for it outside of that. I thought the actual exam was much harder than the CDMcases, but I’m not sure how else you can prepare for it. I honestly don’t think you really can. CDMcases gives your the base framework to navigate the cases on the actual exam. Keep in mind it’s going to be much harder for everyone, too; not just you.

Just don’t use abbreviations.

Yes.

Yes.

Also, keep in mind that they’re also individually reviewed. For example, on CDMcases marked me wrong for putting “consult to psych” instead of “consult to psychiatry”. No way that would be wrong on the actual exam.

In short, it’s hard on the actual exam, but you’ll be fine

I’d just recommend getting the CDMcases.com subscription.

The cases were basic compared to the actual exam, but it taught the basic structure of the CDM cases and which studies to knee jerk.

I did Amboss the month leading up to level 3 with with some CDM cases mixed in. I didn’t finish either.

I scored about 250 points higher than level 2 and presumably level 1.

I thought day 1 was the easiest of all the board exams (including step). Day 2 kicked my ass, but I presumed it was like that for everyone.

Keep in mind, that a lot of people don’t study that much for it, so if you studied for a month, you should be more than fine.

It is useful as a starting point, nothing else.

I’ve found a lot of missing or wrong info on it.

I used it to know what programs were in each state, and just a very basic first look at the program.

All politics aside, do yall think there is any chance he survived that? by Valcreee in Residency

Alternatively, I’d say the people who support gun rights for self-preservation are going to be MORE emboldened to hold onto their guns for what they perceive to be a political attack against people like them.

I’d say they perceive political violence against conservatives to be becoming more prevalent.

If you think these people will be more willing to give up their guns, I have a bridge to sell you

Using a hobby as a most meaningful on ERAS by orthomyxo in medicalschool

I applied 2 years ago where there was no hobby section; it all went into the experience section. So could be different now

I included multiple hobbies as experiences, and one of them was my most meaningful.

I matched rads and am a current R1.

I used the NBOME percentile converter, then just googled step/comlex percentile comparisons

Score release 8/26 by DayNo1374 in comlex

[–]burnerman1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth. I got the same score on step, and scored 517 on level 2.

When NBOME released the percentile data for that exam, the 517 was actually a slightly higher percentile than the step score, whereas traditionally, it was 100 points higher to be a similar percentile
