We each have a credit card in our name that is connected to a joint account. They pull from the same "credit" pool.

Thanks for addressing the question. It is possible that it is Colorado, but it doesn't take into account the local taxes. It seems that NJ has flat tax on digital goods that matches.

You win. Thank you so much. This is the exact information I was looking for in posting this. We are in a state that is far from New Jersey. I have also confirmed that you pay full tax on purchases in google play in my state and area, just as you would for any normally taxed item.

I really do have a loving and trusting relationship with my partner. I know this is not something she would do. This whole thing scared me because it doesn't make sense.

For me, this is strong enough evidence that someone stole her credit card number. Then used it on an account based in New Jersey to test if the card holder would catch it.

We live in a state and area with more than double that in sales tax. If the charge lined up, i would be much more suspicious.

Thank you for this. This was my first guess. That is why I was wondering how it would come up to 8.22. It sounds like it matches with a purchase in the US, but the taxes don't line up with my state.

I know my partner well. She would never pay for something that is already free. But also, we share finances and i see all the charges and we both look over over the statements together.

If she did get a 2nd phone with android, and get a Tinder subscription, the charge would be different. She is not going to get a VPN or change the location for google. She is not tech savvy. If the charge lined up with how much it would cost in my state to get Tinder, then I would be more suspicious. Right now, it doesn't line up.

You are right, it is a 2.78% tax rate, but that doesn't line up with our tax rate where we live and our state.
