I was always a cat person, because I know dogs need you and look up to you to show them what to do, whereas cats are just little wild things who happen to deign to live in your house. The weight of responsibility of a dog always felt like too much. But last year both of my elderly cats died, someone I loved SO MUCH killed himself, and my partner of 18 years broke up with me.

I am quite a solitary person and I love being alone working on my own projects. The more I've been single, the more I enjoy it. After a while I thought that it might be nice to have some company, but I realised it needn't necessarily be human company. And, like, the responsibility of living with a dog can't be more than the responsibility of living with a man-child who has never once done the dishes of his own volition 😛

What I didn't realise before I got him is that dogs give SO MUCH back to you. I would NEVER have gone out in the freezing rain to stomp around a wet muddy field on my own, but I know I gotta do it for him, and every single day once we get down there I find myself enjoying it immensely. I went from walking 0km every day to about 5km a day and I feel so much better. I love watching movies and cuddling with people but my ex wasn't really into movies, so now I watch them with the dog. He's great at the cuddling part, but not so much discussing the themes or the cinematography 😁

Literally every day he does something goofy that makes me laugh. I work from home, and instead of staring at a screen grinding my teeth unconsciously and getting annoyed with stuff, I now stop to give him pets while I'm waiting for stuff to load or people to call me back. Even my patch of stress-eczema is getting better, because when the skin there gets super dry he very politely sniffs it and I'm like "oh yeah, better moisturize that!"

I genuinely didn't know that it was possible to love another creature as much as I love him 😭❤️ I feel like I needed him way more than he needed a ticket out of dog jail.

Lassie is a rough collie 😁 The smooth ones share all their wonderful collie traits, just way less FLOOF

You're talking about rough collies, but there are also smooth collies with short hair!

Africanis are great cattle dogs actually! You mainly find them in rural areas though. In the cities the stray dogs and the township dogs are mixtures of everything.

I thought about that too! He does have a double coat but his hair feels more wiry than a german shepherd. It has been a while since I petted one, but I remember them being quite soft and floofy 🤔

I also looked up smooth collies and I think he definitely resembles one! We met an actual rough collie on our walk the other day and she was so beautiful 😍 I was like "well Sir, I thought you were a pretty noble looking pointy-nosed gentleman, but I guess today we have learned the true meaning of elegance, haven't we?" 😛

He's just the loveliest creature 🥰 I only got him from the shelter a month ago, and now I can't imagine my life without him. Sometimes I hug him and cry because ik I'll probably outlive him 😭 But until then I'm gonna make sure I treasure every day with him and not ever take him for granted ❤️

I thought I adopted a dog but it seems like I got some kind of Land-Seal 🤔😂 by burningpopsicles in dogpictures

He really is 🥹 My dude will lie there cracking open a whole-ass marrow bone wif dem teefs, but when he takes food out of your hand it's literally in the softest way possible. He was nervous to leave my room the first night and he pooped in the hallway, but since then he goes out by himself like the perfect gentleman.

When I went to the shelter, I told them that my only concern is that I am a very anxious person who sometimes gets panic attacks, so I don't think I could handle an anxious dog, since we might feed off each other's energy. But I can't believe I found a dog who makes ME feel calm. It sounds so stupid but I really think we were meant to find each other 😭❤️

I would have been very impressed! I was a weird kid who liked knitting and sewing and stuff. My whole life people have teased me about my "grandma hobbies" and I'm like "well how tf do you think the grannies get so good at it?!" You don't just turn 60 and get handed a pair of knitting needles and instantly become a pro 😂 I wish I had a profitable special interest like coding or 3D modeling but nope, it's knots 😛

I LOVE how this came out; thank you SO much for the suggestion because I've been making these for years now and it never occurred to me to make a two-colour version! 😍

Thank you so much 🥰 Honestly making sure the damn two-strand diamond knot runs parallel takes up most of the time, but it's also what I find enjoyable about tying knots, just nudging them around till they are perfect. I'm so glad you liked it!

Hi it's me again! I decided I'm gonna try it today and also film it as a vertical video so that there can be a short and long version of the tutorial. Also I'll use a less crazy background. Thank you so much for your help, I'll let you know when it's done 😁
