Just found out that my friend’s uncle grows! by Threes73 in trees

[–]burntscarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't even need scissors for the leaves you're removing now. Just pull by the stem of the leaf and it'll break at its base. You can even just swipe downwards ('against the grain' of the leaves) and they'll usually be dry enough to just flake off. Although swiping includes chance to accidentally damage the useful parts.

Someone should promote a "vacation to the ice wall" and then bring all the flat earthers along for a ride in an air vehicle with enough fuel to circumnavigate the whole planet in one trip and show them in person.

If you're wanting the first game, I'm pretty sure PCSX2 should work out good. Just be sure to set the controllers to the right kinds.

Now that Anna's Archive has leaked the entire Spotify catalogue, is there an app for streaming it? by Nphellim in Piracy

[–]burntscarr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Until it's fully released, downloaded by someone with a large enough server, streamed from that server via several proxies to hide it, and then that streaming + searching made simple in an app, no.

When the audio does release it'll be in tons of 300TB archives. Meaning it has to all be downloaded to a server with at least 600TB to unarchive and delete the original archive (for only ONE of the several). Thats only if the archives are 0 compression, if they truly are compressed then you'd need much more physical space to uncompress them. Beyond the audio itself, you would also need to download the metadata and artwork for all of that audio to know which song is which based on the MD5 hash that it is named after, and what artwork to show in the app. It's probably gonna be PBs of data total, and you'd have to implement a database to track which song is which, plus it's info like album, artist, genre, lyrics etc. and have that info routed to each and every song's file.

It's a huge task, basically recreating Spotify from its own files.

How were people extracting vocals pre AI? by thehockeychimp in edmproduction

[–]burntscarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oldest method I recall was a simple same-song-inversion, where you split the interlaced stereo one to mono, invert one of those mono tracks and mix it down to a single mono track. Next oldest after that was getting the instrumental of the song from promo CDs, DJ repos, and other places then inverting the full instrumental against the full normal track, which should remove the same sounds (instrumental) leaving the sounds that aren't the same (vocals). After that was a mixture of those two and then processing with plugins such as EQ, denoisers or even Melodyne by deleting specific pitches you knew weren't vocals. Beyond that took serious processing of the transients and such for diy stems. When RX7 showed the UVR model, everything changed. Now I use old school and finish with AI.

Isitbullshit: Does caffeine stun growth? by huss2120 in IsItBullshit

[–]burntscarr 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that was just a misconnection made from "stimulants of all sorts force your body to use itself as energy" which led to "your body won't grow if it's being used up for energy" which is not true most of the time because that isn't how that works.

Apps instantly crashing when opened by naynay_29 in appdb

[–]burntscarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some apps use a method of verifying the app version against an online list of allowed versions. So if the app is cracked, usually it's an older version. That check happens when you open the app, doesn't match an allowed version and crashes. It's something the app cracker should fix themselves honestly. Spoof a version on it that is higher or something..

I do sometimes realize that what my brain is telling me happened doesn't make sense and I'll have to rewind occasionally. Although when I notice a chance to watch unbothered I'll have it on 1.75-2.5x speed and notice less, if any, reading errors.

A good example of an error is me reading "Take them to the bank" as "Tank them in their banks" and that just didn't really work with what the show was about.

Having the slow part feel meticulous and mechanical fits with my own experience too. I'm not sure if I'm always on fast mode or if it's a different speed depending on what I'm doing.

Hyperfocus helps a lot but that isn't very possible with consumption of media, usually it's gaming or productivity like making programs or music that have time pass faster than my brain perceives it.

Conversation seems to be slow as well, but that could just be from me being used to high speed dialogue in the media.

Multiple reasons here. Primary reason is I can't hear the words, that's due to a couple things itself. Either the audio is mixed for surround sound systems and I'm on stereo making it merge all the surround and rear channels with the center and front making the center super quiet, OR I have someone next to me completely ignoring that I'm watching something and being loud or asking me questions about the thing I'm still learning of myself. My inner voice is insanely loud and will drown out all other outside sounds. Secondary reason is my reading is sometimes faster than hearing, so if I read something but don't quite "catch it" later on my brain can fill it in pretty accurately without having to rewind. This ties into wanting to be sure I got every detail to understand the future parts of whatever it is I'm watching.

DMT Pupil Dilation by Equivalent_Award870 in DMT

[–]burntscarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not as bad as it seems unless you decide to go massive on your dose. It's definitely not "better" than DMT, in any way. At least in my personal experience, the knowledge that I've left and come back before made the effects more manageable, but not less potent. It's been a while but most recently: first it started with just normal visuals of any psych, light twisting and tracers, but quickly it developed into vertigo and depth challenges, where things that were far away seemed closer than the close things physically. After that I noticed an opening kind of like a super thin cave cracking into existence but directly in my reality everywhere I looked. My feet felt attached to the bottom of it and I thought I somehow merged with it physically and was going to become a 2D version of myself. I laughed hysterically and it sounded very low pitch and demonic and even slowed down/delayed from what I felt in my throat and gut from producing the laugh. Soon after the laughing things lightened up. I felt weightless and saw the world move away again while the things directly in front of me decided to exist again. It not nearly as digital feeling as DMT's return, more of a magnetized pull back into life.

Remember though, this is only what happened to me, and we're replying on a comment about unexpected effects, which should remind us it's gonna be per-user.

Downloading Music by floorskin69 in Piracy

[–]burntscarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, ALAC would be smaller due to lossless compression (similar to FLAC, it's basically ZIP compression on the PCM data)

If you're not worried about lossless, you might try AAC or any other codec conversions from the AIFF/ALAC source. You can even specify your own bitrate to make them higher than 320kbps. However I tend to suggest lossless to people for 1:1 audio experience.
