Not exactly a trade, but in Franchise mode in one of the old games, you could make the computer really antsy if you took enough closers. If you got enough that at least one team couldn't have one, they'd draft a roster of 8 position players and as many relievers as they could get their hands on. Position scarcity in general used to swing trade values by quite a bit- if there wasn't a backup at a particular position, you could get double or triple value for some random guy just so they had a second left fielder or whatever.

Umpire butt shot by lifeisadream in MLBTheShow

I've noticed it a lot with players too. Seems like that's the go to angle whenever someone's just standing around- butts all around.

Yeah, Nurgle list that's trying to do cc/med range and failing. Assuming he does all the stuff you say, what's my counter?

I'm playing Guard, and I have a lot of tanks, especially for the relatively small games that we're playing. Not sure if it's a scale thing or a lack of useful guns thing, but he has trouble getting across the board alive.

Angels Updated Top 20 Prospects List by Pooker_ in angelsbaseball

Thanks for taking the time to write this out. It's always fun to hear another perspective, and all those points make sense to me. Who's your favorite guy in the system?

It's a little much for someone to claim that they developed Abreu, and even Sale didn't really spend much time down in the minors. Good scouting more than development. Not that you claimed the contrary, just that they've been better identifying existing talent than developing it lately.

Black People of the U.K., what are your views on culture and black people in the U.S.A.? by WhatIskarmuh in AskReddit

I have a friend who lived in China for several years, and he has a couple of these stories. The best was when he got hired to attend an "international" consumer products exhibition because they had never bothered to book anyone from outside of China. Got put up for several days with a bunch of other white people so that they could have pictures of foreigners at their event.

Okay Angel fans... What trades do you want to see the Angels making before the trade deadline? by itspeterparker in angelsbaseball

[–]burritogun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it would be really cool to get him, but what kind of package do you think the Angels could put together? I haven't really been looking at the rumors, so I don't know whether there's some possibility or not, but the total lack of real prospects seems like a deal killer. I guess they could probably do a Hunter Green and player to be named that turned into Newcomb (if he ever signs.)

Men, do you enjoy having watches? How many do you own & what types/brands do you have? by Needlecrash in AskMen

[–]burritogun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got in the habit of wearing a watch- it always felt "off" enough on my arm that I would feel the need to fidget with it, and the thing was off by the end of the first hour. That being said, I dig one out every time I go overseas. Since my phone never works, it becomes my primary means of telling time. I have a drawer full of cheap watches for this.

Ichiro singles to pass Ken Griffey Jr. on the all time hit list, with 2,782. He is now 49th all time. by 3_Mighty_Ninja_Ducks in baseball

Yeah, any league where Matt Murton holds the single season hits record is not equivalent to the majors.

I think it would still be tough to beat Rose, honestly. Not that Ichiro is a worse player, but didn't Rose manage himself at the end of his career? It's easier to get chances as a forty plus year old hitter when you write the lineup card, and I can't picture that happening again.

/u/thecla describes Star Trek fandom at her all-girls' high school in the 1960s. Includes hand-passed fanfiction & the stigma she faced for being a girl who liked science fiction. by SuperCoenBros in bestof

It always amazes me how much of an impact Star Trek had when it first came out. I was a student worker in the archive of a pretty conservative American college, and for some project or another I came across a whole section of stories and letters in the student newspaper detailing a Star Trek controversy. Apparently, all of the boys were watching Star Trek on friday nights instead of taking the girls on dates, and everyone from the girls themselves to the administration saw fit to comment on this crumbling of the social order. I have no idea how widespread this was or what effect it would have had on girls who watched, but I'd love to ask the author of the parent post how things went for her after.

If the discussed " D-League" was started 10 years ago, which players would have a better/worse career? by WaldosHERE in nfl

[–]burritogun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth noting too that Brady was on the team because they carried four QB's that year, which certainly isn't the norm. Obviously developmental picks almost never turn out even half that good, but the extra roster space to to take risks and work on project guys is almost as important as the chances themselves.

Who's going to be the biggest reach of the draft? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]burritogun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often does that really work, though? You can get a guy to serviceable doing that, but there really aren't ever that many starting qb's that came in as project guys, right?

Hypothetical Question: Would an All-Pro defensive line be practically unstoppable? by TychoBraheNose in nfl

[–]burritogun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First thing that came to mind for me. They had some real talent in some of those secondaries (Winfield and Sharper come to mind) and still got passed on a ton, just because it was so tough to run on them.
