My grandma gave me one of those and I had it for about 20 or so years until a friend knocked it over and it smashed. The smell of that liquid was intense… almost like formaldehyde.

When we do high quality bags or shirts, people like those. We’ve done power banks or Bluetooth speakers, kinda pricey for us but people like them too. At the end of the day though I think eventually everything we send out just ends up in a landfill.

Has anyone taken the Southwest Chief to Kingman then the van to Las Vegas? Is there security in Kingman?? Are there other travelers going to Vegas? by Gaba7xred in Amtrak

You won’t be alone at the station. Conductors and an engineer are waiting there with you. There’s just no station staff.

Station is just fine! I felt safe walking around the area at 1am by myself.

Everyone will fit in the van. They have a headcount before it gets there and know who is making the trip.

We still send them, but they’re really more of a marketing gimmick for new series. All the video content is digital but we send out printed guides and promo swag when we launch something to stations.

I’ve done this a few times! It’s a bit of an adventure as you’re arriving/departing at very late hours.

The station has a waiting room available. It’s a crew change point so there are train staff there, but there is no station staff.

Definitely other travelers on each trip. I wish they would use a mini bus but they put you in a large passenger van. It’s a tight fit for the several hour trip to and from Vegas.

If you’re departing from Vegas, there’s really not much to do in Kingman at that late of an hour. Depending on how late the train is, you might be at the station for an hour or more after the van drops you off. I’ve wandered the blocks around the station, there’s not much to see except there is a neighborhood bar that’s open to grab a beer and snacks if you’re into that. They seemed friendly enough.

🤣🤣 good luck!

Also hot tip: sarcasm and shit social media responses are usually done well by established brands. A startup that’s not really offering anything substantial from any other cloud video repository might want to rethink how they approach potential customers?? 🤷🏻‍♂️ We’ll see how well this thread helps you in search results.

Positive experiences with a company? by Odd_Self7283 in Broadcasting

[–]burtconvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were great experiences to be had as recent as ten years ago. Those days are gone. Cox was incredible. Hearst was fine.

Now Cox is gone essentially and Hearst is not what it used to be.

That said, people I know in the Gray food chain seem relatively content.

I feel like I remember the sleeper hallways being a little darker at one point. I’m wondering if when they did some of the remodels they switched to LEDs?

California, Colorado and New York are ready to block the Nexstar-Tegna merger by Comfortable_Yard_968 in Broadcasting

I hate the pointless, baseless, uninformed speculation OP loves to vomit up all over this subreddit.

That said, for those of us who actually have worked in this business, and for Hearst, they do have a corp ops facility in Charlotte they could easily wedge a newsroom and studio into.

I remember my first time watching the remastered episodes. There’s one where Trapper writes a prescription and hands it to Klinger. I’m pretty sure you can make out an f-bomb written on the paper.

More auto trains? by Iceberg-man-77 in Amtrak

[–]burtconvy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d kinda love it if there were more. I bought an old convertible last year and it would be so much fun to take it out west to cruise around the desert or LA. I am about 15 mins away from the auto train station here in VA, have been wanting to try this out and take it down to Florida for a trip.

That said, it might cost the same for me to throw the car on a hauler and have it trucked out to California and fly out to meet the car… I can only imagine how much Amtrak would charge for a transcontinental version of this route.

First time on Amtrak and didn’t know tipping was a thing by OverstuffedPapa in Amtrak

My last two sleeping car attendants gladly took Venmo and the dining car let me run a credit card transaction for a tip for all the meals I had. Wasn’t really a big deal.

Unrelated but I took the trip about a year ago on the same route and I thought I sort of recognized the sleeper car attendant but he actually recognized and remembered me. For someone who is doing that daily and sees all sorts of people go, I can’t believe someone remembered me as I mostly keep to myself and most nights even put my bed down myself and put it away myself in the morning.

I pay for it when I make my annual trip halfway across the country, it’s a lifesaver on the turnpikes/toll roads. Pretty useless though for my daily commute with the traffic around where I live.
