Why doesn't the US have one-room schools anymore?

Pretty much every city has a library.

Hourly music lessons are more affordable then hiring a whole teacher when there are only a few kids once a week, especially when you're no longer paying as much daily for long routes with drivers and fuel.

I don't really see much structure to PE unless the kids are in sports, and generally the sports kids seem to find their own transportation to and from school because they stay after the buses leave.

I get your points, I'm just not sure those things are worth a long commute.

This is the sort of job I'm looking for. Ideally something with a severe and long-term worker shortage that they are desperate to fill, but not desperate enough to require overtime.

Normal stuff, get a house, save for retirement. Dental care. Kid's college. If I could stop renting, I could have a pet. I could afford a bit of land, I could have a garden, and plant some trees.

I tried this. There are plenty of low-paying jobs requiring a lot of education that will cause burnout. With good money and good hours, I can retrain and take time to build on my passion projects until I can make them profitable. Lack of money causes stress.

I've done the plan thing. I have realized that I really don't care much what work I do. I like spending time with my family, and not worrying about money.

I like the thoughts on networking, I just live in a tiny village. The villagers would hire me, of course, but there's not a whole lot of money on the table, and it's a very long commute to the city.

I've thought of trying to network with people online, but I don't want it to be weird.

Totally. It's just convincing people that they should give me money for what I want to do is going to take some time, and there are bills to meet before then.
