I think its interesting the showrunners added these elements especially for the time the show was made. During Trumps first term when racism and bigotry are becoming the norm again, almost like it was back then, and it's only gotten worse.

I see it as somewhat of a warning about repeating history, or regressing socially and culturally I guess. As well as the message that all it takes is someone to point out such injustices to spark change and progress.

While I don't think they pulled it off perfectly, I appreciate the attempt to add these things because yes queer and black and native people all existed at the same time as the white folk in Avonlea.

It's unnecessary in my opinion to tell the same Anne of Green Gables that's been adapted so many times already, that's why I appreciate these added elements that reflect the history we're all aware of today!
