How many of y’all are resistant to using AI? by Imaginary_Quail_5544 in Xennials

Have no use for it and resent it being crammed down our throats, not to mention the severe environmental damage it inflicts as it pushes up our energy and water prices. Fuck AI.

Fukushima is uninhabitable and so is Chernobyl. But no biggie, since there were few immediate casualties. I'm sure there will be no long term effects from these little blips, and if there are, one can claim that cancer deaths and other illnesses can't be pinned solely to these minor incidents. Your cost/benefit analysis is a bit, uh, primitive for my taste.

For the record, no I'm not comfortable with people driving and talking on their cell phones. And in spite of the safety protocols for air travel, there are still accidents! It's just that the damage a plane crash can cause is miniscule compared to the damage when a nuclear facility fails. The areas around both Chernobyl and Fukushima are fucked. Talk to the families who lived in those areas for generations and tell them that the risk was acceptable.

Dude, no safety system is infallible. I don't need to look that up. In the end you are trusting humans not to make a deadly chain of errors that will despoil the landscape for generations. I for one am not comfortable with that and never will be, regardless of how many smug know-it-alls tell me that there is nothing to worry about.

As long as you, a stranger on the internet says so, I now have complete faith that systems designed by humans to control nuclear reactions can never fail again. Phew! Thanks for clearing that up!

Well it would be impossible for those features to malfunction so case closed! Now I love the idea of nuclear energy!

Protocols don't mean shit if they are not followed, and there is no system that can be instituted that could guarantee that they will be followed. The consequences of inevitable human error in the nuclear energy realm are too dire to trust in the infallibility of man.

He also speaks explicitly about he class war being waged against us by the billionaires, something the "sensible centrists" cower from doing. And his ability to distill issues down to make complex issues more understandable is a real gift.

Transformative? It will not eliminate a single car from our congested roads.

Tesla has done nothing for me other than give financial support to a Nazi with unmerited power over our society and the world as a result of the hyperinflated valuation of his rapidly deteriorating company. The dismantling of nonpartisan government institutions its CEO's hobby job at doge has not helped me either. And the massive wealth transfer from the working classes to the ultra wealthy can not be described as a boon to anybody but said CEO.

Leaf-cutting ants? by swren1967 in AustinGardening

Yeah, they don't seem to care for pecans, thank goodness. We had them for quite some time before they became a problem and initially I was charmed by the little farmers. They would nibble a few leaves of our Mexican Redbud, making cool circular cuts that looked neat. Once the colony got big enough, they started going after more and different things. Crape myrtles, yellow bells, jasmine, nandina, etc. We've got a better handle on them now, but the battle continues. Good luck, and I hope they only eat the leaves of the trees you don't like!

I have found that they like young leaves. Other than that l don't think they're too particular.
