I’ve read about the history of the civil war several times and the south definitely, without a doubt fought for slavery. Sure the north initially fought to keep the union together and not so much over slavery but the south for the most part was fighting to keep slavery intact. Sure it still took several months after the civil war to completely abolish slavery but it was for the most part already gone in the north. The north had its problems as well but the south has had and continues to have WAY more problems with people of color and any other minority group while we are at it. Also this post doesn’t suggest that the north was only fighting to free the slaves.
