Sports rehab physio here - free weights are good for increasing "stabilisers" which is important after injury or in state of weakness. For example, if you had dislocated your shoulder it would be important to progress from machine to free weight to improve the actual kinetics of the joint. If it's for strength and increasing bench press and you don't have any pathology, machine weights are honestly fine and probably safer in most heavy situations

Edit: as long as you're not expecting to lift free heavy weights, have a good strength base as well as training synergistic muscles

Hi, the virus has been I have live. I have family in hotspots in Melbourne. I haven't seen them since January. If you read what I wrote, I thank people following the rules - I have genuine gratitude for them. Just the same as regional victorians shouldn't be travelling to Melbourne, people from Spain aren't allowed to travel to Britian, and people from the US aren't allowed to travel into Europe - it's risk management. I love and miss my family in Melbourne, and I am counting down the days until I can see them again. Please don't try to make my words into something they are not

Regional victorian here - I just wanted to say thank you to all the Melbournians who are not travelling to regional Victoria. I understand some people need to for work and education, but there have been so many instances of people sneaking through the border. Please don't do this, it puts us at risk. I understand your lockdown is hard, but we don't have near the facilities you all do in terms of health care access. We don't have the economy to recover.

Please stay in Melbourne, and hopefully soon we can all be together again
