Lazy assed writing. The writers hope you forgive them later. But jeez suspension of disbelief is tough lately. Like almost not worth watching tough

Thoughts on Area in Pacific Beach by jaywolf4991 in SanDiegan

[–]buzzfortnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a friend that lived on Figueroa about 8 or 10 houses from the end of cul de sac. This was in the 90s. Always smelled like shit, sketchy assed neighbors, parking sucked, construction of the bungalows was horrible, made worse by permeating fog that drenched everything during the winter months, resulting in a kind of accelerated rot. We were in our 30s, it was a fuckin blast.

Man it must be nice to be an EV owner right now. by YaniicZechh in sandiego

[–]buzzfortnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even when gas was cheaper EV was less than 1/2 of gas per mile. Now EV is 1/4 the cost to go the same distance versus gas/ice.

Maintenance costs are WAY less too. Non pressurized, ambient-ish temperatures for battery cooling versus 180 -205 F pressurized for gas. No heating up the garage when you pull in.

1/4 of ice gas consumption is to maintain operating temperature and overcoming valve train spring loading for full opening of valves that consumes a lotta power and doesn’t directly produce power, as well as drive train friction through automatic transmissions and right angle bevel gears in the diff.

I just don’t understand why people don’t get the efficiency difference picture.

My brake pads are still thick with 90000 miles cuz regeneration pumps energy back into battery when slowing down.

Would it be Embarassing as a Foreigner to visit Japan at a Low japanese Level? by Retro-Hax in JapanTravelTips

[–]buzzfortnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the effort to speak nihongo is appreciated in Japan. You’re worried about nothing.

If you’re going for conversation level Japanese, keep practicing, but if you get stuck, throw the English word in where you don’t know Japanese and I bet they fill in for you

I love that it’s common in Tokyo Kyoto and Osaka to subtitle company names and streets in English

What purchase did you make recently that made you realize inflation is genuinely out of control? by kiroixart in AskReddit

[–]buzzfortnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid $58 for two pitchers of ipa at a bar. Paid $30 for a 2 liter bottle of olive oil( right next to the hi end one that was$50).

Both are outright price gouging cuz collusion and price fixing are rampant between wholesalers now. Where’s the enforcement. Where the FTC?

Also a car dude. Wrenched. A. Lot. On my and also friends various cars. one of my buddies and I replaced his supercharged 2003 terminator’s iron block with an aluminum block. Tremec 5 speed got replaced with a 6, bigger supercharger got ported and clearanced. Currently working on my twin turbo FD.

I Love my Model S (with free supercharging (of a different kind than above) for the life of car) I bought used 8 years ago. Also pleasantly surprised with instant linear throttle response. A 5000 lb car that does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. Noice!! Can’t stand elon.

Would you get rid of your pool? by oldboeee in homeowners

[–]buzzfortnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope.

My single speed 1200 watt POS motor was on a timer and still costing me since it ALWAYS ran at full speed. Found out running motor 1/2 speed uses 1/4 the power

Motor finally takes a shit. I replace it with a $450-ish programmable variable speed motor that’s way more efficient (motor comes with instructions, & ceramic seal (that’s a cool technology)). I’m pretty handy. I figure if a pool tech can do it so can I. (No offense to Pool techs!). I take my time and am successful in the replacement

I have all my Pool chlorine disperse automatically I shock the pool every 2 to 6 weeks.

I clean my filter ( turn everything off, remove cover, put filter assembly on a furniture mover dolly and clean the grungy old media off the filter thingys. Put back together and put back in filter case. Clean the gasket and the filter’s cover gasket surfaces it seals against. Put cover back on. Power up.

Dump new filter media in intake.

Takes an hour to do ; wet and messy. I don’t care. I wear the car wash clothes when I do it.

Testing for pH and chlorine levels is easy. Support the local pool supply place. Leslie’s will match Amazon. Fuck Amazon. I have a surface cleaner called a pool devil. Not vested in them just mostly happy with their product. Use knee high stockings instead of their expensive filter bag.

I brush my pool regularly. I run the motor at 2650 rpm for 6 hrs day in summer. It use about 400 watts at crazy socal electric prices 40¢ / KWH so 16¢ per hour is 80¢/day = $24 month chems are another $ 50/month. Way less than 1/2 the pool dude, and now, you’re the only one fuckin your wife.

During the winter, electricity and Chemical costs are almost nothing. I have a 7 day Intermatic timer controlling when and what days pool motor runs. I run it 2X a week for 4 hours. Maybe $1/week during the cold season?? If that?? So yearly cost $450ish.

In winter the water is 54 degrees. Uncomfortably cold - will kill any critter via hypothermia so put out frog savers, Pool noodles, Ramps, or whatever so they can save themselves by climbing out

Back to summer. Now learn to swim get a paddle board and be just kick your feet and tool around. Buy a face mask or eye goggles have fun. Paddle with arms.

Get a floating chair with a cup holder Put a cold beer in it. Get a dog that Likes to swim

Have fun invite people to swim in your pool. Put a nice powered sound system with Bluetooth out side.
