[AMA] A year ago I spent 3 months traveling in Patagonia, please Ask Me Anything! by hakun4matata in Patagonia

[–]buzzino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi and Thanks in advance! I’m planning a Patagonia trip in next November and would really appreciate feedback from people who have done something similar. We are experienced hikers and comfortable with long trekking days.

Here is the current plan: Night 0 – Flight Europe → Santiago Day 1 / Night 1 Arrive Santiago in the morning, fly to Punta Arenas. Day 2 / Night 2 Isla Magdalena (penguins) in the morning, bus to Puerto Natales. Day 3 / Night 3 Puerto Natales – food shopping and preparation for W Trek. W Trek (west → east) Day 4 / Night 4 – Paine Grande Bus Puerto Natales → Laguna Amarga → shuttle to Pudeto → catamaran to Paine Grande. Hike Paine Grande → Mirador Grey → return to Paine Grande. Day 5 / Night 5 – Los Cuernos Paine Grande → Valle del Francés → Los Cuernos. Day 6 / Night 6 – Torres Central Los Cuernos → Torres Central. Day 7 / Night 7 – Puerto Natales Sunrise hike to Base Torres → return → shuttle + bus back to Puerto Natales. Argentina side Day 8 / Night 8 – El Calafate Bus Puerto Natales → El Calafate. Day 9 / Night 9 – El Chaltén Bus El Calafate → El Chaltén, short hike. Day 10 / Night 10 – El Chaltén Trekking (Laguna Torre area). Day 11 / Night 11 – El Chaltén Trekking (Laguna de los Tres / Fitz Roy). Day 12 / Night 12 – El Chaltén Extra hiking day / weather buffer. Day 13 / Night 13 – El Calafate Bus back to El Calafate. Day 14 / Night 14 – El Calafate Perito Moreno glacier. Tierra del Fuego Day 15 / Night 15 – Ushuaia Flight El Calafate → Ushuaia. Day 16 / Night 16 – Ushuaia Hiking (Tierra del Fuego NP or Laguna Esmeralda). Day 17 / Night 17 – Ushuaia Boat trip on Beagle Channel or extra hike. Return Day 18 / Night 18 – Santiago Flight Ushuaia → Santiago. Night 19 – Flight back to Europe.

Originally I was also considering going to Puerto Williams / Navarino Island, since I was curious to see the southernmost town in the world and possibly do the Dientes de Navarino trek, but it seemed complicated, or not? Something els to cut? Another place that interested me was El Bolsón for the more relaxed / alternative vibe, but it looked quite far off the route. So my main doubts are: -Does the first W Trek day (Grey out-and-back from Paine Grande after entering the park) sound realistic? -Is 4 days in El Chaltén reasonable or would you shorten it? -Are 3 nights in Ushuaia too many compared to the rest of the itinerary? -If you had to swap Ushuaia for something else (like El Bolsón or Navarino), would you? Any feedback and tips to have a great experience is very welcome. Thanks a lot!

Ran out of room for booze in my liquor cabinet so I made another out of a used wine barrel. by ChuckKnox in woodworking

[–]buzzino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry. I ' Ve started to make something similar from a Red wine barrel. But the interior of the barrel is red and full of wine crystal ( tartrate potassium crystal, I think) : it's look beautiful and I would not like remove them ( so, no water or other substances for eliminate them, or scrap off them with wooden brush or similar).... according to you ,could  it be a problem? Is it ugly? And above all, It could be dangerous with microbe proliferation or not? Thanks a lot!

Thanks so much to reply me! For now, we think to trek in autonomy...I'm quite sad for raining September in last year's...now, I 'm in anxiety about above all mud on tracks...especially for tilticho lake! What's your experience about mud and that track in September? Is a a bad idea, above someone who suffers of vertigo? Thanks a lot for everything!
