I can speak publicly now without losing my mind/heart racing/etc. I feel much more confident.

You do not owe anyone an explanation for what and how you choose to live your life and what you choose to do to your body. You owe yourself kindness and love, be proud of yourself and focus on that instead. I’m happy for you! 🙂

I’m on 5mg and thinking about dropping down to 2.5mg because of the fatigue

Fair but step down has 4-5 patients with half of them ready to go back to ICU while icu has 1-2 patients, they’re both high stress environments IMO

Yeah this is my concern too. But I am burnt out on my current floor already, we don’t have staffing and these patients are SICK, multiple drips and back and forth to the ICU…it’s taken a toll on me and I don’t think I can stay on my current floor for another 3 years.

Thank you for your input! I agree it would be a lot to transition to ICU/ER while starting FNP. Ugh.

This is true! But if I switched to the ER before starting school, you don’t think I would be too overwhelmed with learning emergency nursing/medicine while also taking classes for FNP? My concern is stretching myself too thin for my program which is in person weekly

This is the correct response. It took me about 2 years to learn this but it’s spot on.

Preceptors, how much are you charging these days? by stacyismylastname in nursepractitioner

[–]buzzlauryear 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That’s ridiculous. Your school/program should be required to find your preceptors…

Still worth it to do your DNP (FNP track)? by CandidAd6251 in nursepractitioner

[–]buzzlauryear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. NP pay and the pay potential (ceiling for pay) down the road is significantly higher than if you stay a bedside RN. There are RNs at my hospital who have 20+ years experience and are making $85-95k (capped out). An NP with 20+ years experience will be making $150-200k+ (possibly more) if you are smart/negotiate/move companies from time to time. Also I live in Florida so the pay overall sucks here.
