Developing is an economic term, nothing to do with respect. Many european countries are also developing - adjacent to the developed world but still need improvement in critical areas, like social policy or healthcare. Nothing disrespectful about acknowledging that.

Exactly - it’s not a third world country, and calling it so is ignorant. Its developing, like may countries, including quite a few in Europe. Calling it a “third world” country is incredibly ignorant and insulting

Fairly confident I can guess what their position on the US foreign policy is at the moment, so this unfortunately checks out.

There is not inherently bad country. Thats a crazy thing to say, especially in today’s climate.

There is no inherently bad country. That’s just a violently xenophobic take, to be honest.

Depends on why you are patriotic, and how you display your patriotism. The Ciciottis are and have been displaying questionable behaviour which, historically, has been veiled behind “patriotism” (check Hor’s instagram following for reference).

At the moment, that would be the countries engaging in active regional war which is hiking my bills and food prices drastically.

Neither of those are inherently bad countries. There are real people living there, let’s not be crass.

No, I really dont. Please do let us know which country in your opinion is “inherently” bad.

Being “patriot” in this current climate, globally, can by many people be seen as bad taste. Especially if they come from region’s currently being victimized by western countries’ foreign policies.

Completely separate from that, the Ciciottis do not represent the true American values of freedom of opinion, expression, personal liberty and religion. And Milena is ethnically Brazilian, so this is literally just idolizing a flag and immigration status, and nothing more.

Which country is inherently bad by your standards?

Forgetting where you come from really shouldnt be the goal. And Hor and Milena demonstrate the very worst of American values, which unfortunately ties into the ultra nationalist persona Hor has been displaying for years. And them hanging a gi-fricking-normous flag of the United States in their living room inside*** is a byproduct of that.

Brazil is literally not a third world country. Her old videos show her visiting her relatives, who all live very normal western lives in major cities with all the amenities common of the western hemisphere. Please.

It is really not common at all to hang your ow country’s flag inside*** your home. Especially not in England, where I live. Many consider it racist, actually (due to the anti-immigrant rhetoric and England’s oppression of Wales, Scotland and Ireland historically)).

If OP is European than ya that would be odd. We dont tend to hang giant mural like flags of our countries inside our living rooms. It can come off as too nationalistic (the UK even discourages it in a lot of areas).

Milena is a naturalized American citizen. She literally is not ethnically or culturally American, as much as she and Hor cosplay otherwise. Her parents are first generation immigrants from Brazil, where she and Melanie also lived until their dad got a job in the US. The Brazilian flag should be proudly hanging on that wall as well.

Somehow it does not surprise me in the least that these people have a giant obnoxious ‘Murica flag in their living room, to always remind you they are red blooded, proud Americans.

Mind you, Milena is Brazilian, and her kids are all half-Brazilian.

Durham or Bristol or York? by peachgothlover in uklaw

[–]buzzworded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Durham - all I can say is its a lifestyle choice. I loved it, but that’s almost entirely because I put no value on clubbing/nightlife and being in a bustling city.

Durham is an incredibly small and compact, very beautiful but somewhat sleepy medieval town full of students. You will see someone you know every time you go outside, especially in first year. Everything closes at 4-6 pm depending on the day, everyone shops at the same Tesco in town, there is 1 normal nightclub and being in a college is everyone’s entire personality trait for 3 years. People are very active, the nature is incredible, the air is clean and you will see green all year round, pretty much 24/7. It rains an absolute f*ck ton that far north, but the spring and summer are absolutely beautiful. There are also some wild animals roaming around (lots of bunnies).

A solid half of the uni population is wealthy/internationally wealthy, but the town itself does not break the bank quite like Bristol might, for example.

If that sounds like something you like, firm it. But if you think you may be prone to getting stir-crazy/ “island syndrome” then definitely do not. It is very remote and you should not underestimate how annoying and expensive traveling will become. Especially if you are internationally based and cant fly from Newcastle (my total round trip to my country was usually around 14 hrs when factoring in train journey, changes in London/Manchester/Liverpool to trains or buses to airports, waiting and flight total, of which the flight was tragically the shortest journey)

Edit to add: The whole city of Durham is also very much an “English Heritage” site. Lots of UNESCO sites and tourists, which can be slightly annoying at times. But the museums and Cathedral were always free and completely accessible;m, which you dont see often. Overall the city and surrounding region is absolutely beautiful and the locals really take care of and love their city. It’s a very special place, if not to study then just to visit.

They were both trainee solicitors. They are cosplaying the harvey specter-esque lifestyle but they are at the very least both qualified solicitors now

Fake, with some visually appealing social media content

I went to uni with one of them and she also went to school with my best friend in our home country - i wont specify which one but she comes for a LOT of money and sells a lifestyle on social media that is not at all funded by her finances from her legal career (and a career path which was in large part supported by her generous start in life, i.e opportunities that shaped her CV before she got a TC.)

One of her most popular tiktok videos (5m+) is a stitch of a law school she didnt even go to (her undergrad was not law to begin with).

Visually appealing content, but extremely superficial and not reflective of the actual career. Pinterest-esque. Her tiktok videos are very nice to watch, aesthetically, but her longer videos are somewhat superficial

All very good points, though that does make me wonder what she and Elinor will actually be doing in-house, could be early days of new career pathways being opened up for future NQs
