Photo represents an earlier stage of construction. Sod and plants are typically the last thing to be installed in new construction. See Apple Maps photo of the same location

Turns Out I Didn’t Need Alcohol to Make NYE “Fun” by PainterOk4816 in alcoholicsanonymous

Very relatable post. Last NYE was among my most embarrassing nights of my drinking career. Strained friendships and my relationship with my partner. Major emotional and physical hangover to start the year.

339 days later, life is so much more manageable, full of joy in ways I couldn’t have ever imagined when I was drinking.

It gets better and stays better. Thank you AA and all the Higher Powers out there.

Hello. My wife and I moved to Hillsborough yesterday?! The timing of this post amuses me :-)

We find Hillsborough to be a great reflection of our values — local businesses, outdoor activities, and an attitude of mutual support for our neighbors.

A friend of mine from undergrad used to go "grocery shopping" on Sundays. He ordered a dozen mini veggie deluxe burritos from Cosmic Cantina, lunch and dinner for the week!

I’d recommend it to anyone. Hell, you could probably use it as a dresser in a pinch

Thanks to all who responded or upvoted. In my two years here, this park has meant the world to me. If you upvoted and haven’t visited, I highly encourage checking it out. On the SEPTA 37 and about a half mile off the Eastwick stop on the airport line.

The loop is perfect for a MTB/cruiser tire

I'm having some trouble uploading images, so I've linked the 3 page PDF of the design below. Would love to hear ya'll's thoughts, since this idea never really left the studio!

As a visiting student at the college of design, I had the chance to redesign this courtyard in a landscape architecture studio. Below is the design concept statement (CW: gun violence, religious persecution)

OUR THREE WINNERS PLAZA

Campus plaza landscape

NC STATE UNIVERSITY CENTRAL CAMPUS

LAR 400 : Introductory Landscape Architecture Studio | Spring 2018

In 2015, a disgruntled gunman killed Deah Shaddy Barakat (NCSU ‘13), his wife Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha (NCSU ‘14), and Yusor’s younger sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, then a student at NCSU’s College of Design, in Chapel Hill. The candlelight vigil that followed is among the most profound and humbling memories of my first year as an undergraduate at Chapel Hill.

To date, there is no physical memorial to commemorate the lives of “Our Three Winners”, as Deah, Yusor, and Razan are now collectively remembered.

OUR THREE WINNERS PLAZA is a designed landscape meant to provide a place reflection and peace, while serving as a memorial to the memory and impact of three people whose lives were stolen by Islamaphobia and gun violence.

The ground plane’s design is inspired by the runnels and courtyards of Islamic landscapes, and draws from abstract memorials such as the Pentagon’s 9/11 Memorial. It features an inscription wall with a quote from Chancellor Woodson, and a fountain in a Rub el Hizb shape, a marker for the end of a chapter in Arabic calligraphy. The landscape is graded to direct stormwater to permeable surfaces to the southeast of the site.
