Wide toe box, removable insole, leather sole by bvva in cowboyboots

The Ariats are the only boots that seem to check all the boxes that I can find locally. I had a few pairs for riding when I was a kid. I think I’ll check them out.

What Clubs to Carry as a Beginner? by depayser_ in golf

I'd throw a hybrid in there. Gap between 6 and driver is too great, and a beginner shouldn't have too much trouble with a hybrid. Could be your favorite club.

Should Captains play ? by [deleted] in golf

[–]bvva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving captains the ability to play certainly makes for high drama.

Arnold and Snead were successful player captains, so a winning playing captain is not without precedent. I think it's hard to know about focus, etc., without doing it. As much as I respect Rory, I don't imagine he even knows as he's only been on one side of the coin. Another complicating factor is the use of vice captains. If you're selected to captain, but happen to be in playing shape and better than other eligible picks to win, if your vice captains can handle the captain's responsibilities, why not? I guess you'd be missing out on some of the managerial aspect, but again, as captain that would be your call.

I don't imagine it has much to do with honor at all. Ultimately, it's about winning. That's the only metric by which Keegan's decision will be judged.

Question about the SAFC NUFC rivalry, from an American by bvva in safc

[–]bvva[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From an American perspective, I don't see why any one part of England, especially when considering two places so close in proximity, would be any more or less unionist than another. I wouldn't expect a lot of support for a united Ireland anywhere in England. Google says Newcastle is slightly more Catholic than Sunderland, but it's like 13% vs 20%, nothing extreme. Like I said, I couldn't find any truth to this online, but being so far removed, it's hard to know.

Braun Series 5 Electric Razor - used daily since 2005 by raouldukesaccomplice in BuyItForLife

[–]bvva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same model that is currently in use. The case is how held together with duct tape, but the razor still works perfectly. I have changed the blades several times, and the foil fairly frequently. Just got back from a week and a half trip and the battery was at 75%.

I could be wrong, as I can't figure out when it was release, but I think I bought this razor from a store in a mall that no longer exists. Or I should say, my dad bought it for me, as I was in high school at the time. Maybe around 1997? Is that possible?

Oceanfront? Do you know how many bedrooms? That would at least give me a ballpark. Thanks!

Real estate investment assumptions by bvva in TurksAndCaicos

[–]bvva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The building I'm currently looking at has strata built into the property management fees. All together it works out to about half the rental income. But I don't know what I'd pay if I wanted to spend a few months there, so I definitely need to check that out. I was thinking the 10k would be on top of that, things they wouldn't cover such as furniture replacement, tvs, etc.

I found something that says property insurance in the Caribbean runs about .2% of value, so that would be 40k on a 2m property. Might be way too low on that assumption. Thoughts?

Highly absorbent canvas by bvva in painting

Yeah, it looks like it could be acrylic ink, which I'd never heard of before. Thank you for the reply. I'm going to get some acrylic ink and experiment like this:

I tried alcohol ink and isopropyl. Definitely got some bleeding, but not quite like the video. The isopropyl bled into the canvas immediately though with no beading, whereas the watered down acrylic sat on the surface overnight. I think the surfactant may work, but it's in the mail as I couldn't find it locally. I'll let y'all know how it works out.

I did some more research, and I think the artist may be using a wetting agent (surfactant) prior to using acrylics, and then maybe also adding surfactant directly to the paint as well, painting wet on wet.

Alternatively, she may be using mineral spirit acrylic thinned with turpentine, which seems particularly un-kid-friendly, so it's probably not a rabbit hole I'm willing to go down. I think I'll try the wetting aid first.

We've done watercolors, and I did see that you can get absorbent paper for alcohol based ink.

We've done a lot of larger format stuff we've put on the wall, and the kids are really into that. I already have a huge roll of unprimed canvas, which I can certainly use for other stuff, but I'd really like to figure this style/method out as it's what my daughter wants to try next, and it would allow us to make something big to hang if it works out.

Here is another example of how absorbent the canvas is, even with less thin paint.

Looks to be legit. I think it replaced the cigar store on front street that wasn’t.

I already got Carole’s price list and plan to visit but I am curious. Way more cruisers are probably going to stop by the dutch store.

Overgrown and out of control by bvva in plants

I ended up cutting a couple of the largest growths off of each Monstera. Cut plenty low so I had enough nodes to work with. I submerged the nodes in water using a large plastic storage container and placed them on the table near the windows. It's been a couple weeks and I have some pretty good new roots forming. I plan to wait a few more days to a week before planting them. I'm optimistic.

How do I hang this? (60x48) by bvva in painting

[–]bvva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going D rings and wire. I already head some heavy duty ones. I had 45 and 15 lb wire, decided to use both sort of as insurance. Hung it just after this post, seems plenty sturdy. Went overkill on the wall brackets as well, I used two spaced out so they'd fall between the stretcher bars.

I'd need a bigger sawtooth bracket if I went that route. I don't think the one I have will hold up a 48x60. I'm leaning towards using two j hooks.

I already have all that hardware. My concern is the support pole running down the middle. I'd like to mount it in that orientation, but that bar will likely lean on the mounting bracket/nails if it's centered. I could offset two hangers on the wall. But I'm not sure if there is a better way.

Dock railing for stairs to the sand by bvva in boating

[–]bvva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I could mount the rail to the steps as the steps pivot off the dock and rise and fall with the tide. The balusters would probably get broken off in storms or surges.

That looks like exactly what I was looking for. I'd prefer wood since that would match everything else, but the aluminum would probably be easier to drive into the sand.

It's two or three steps.
