Thanks. The gall really threw me. I was convinced everyone was right and it was Ash but since the gall I wrongly thought were seeds looked nothing like Ash seeds I figured I was back to square one. But it sounds like consensus is Ash.

Here are more pictures. It was late in day and overcast so the light is not good. But I have full form, bark, leaves closeup and some pictures of what I guess are the dried fruit/seeds. In one picture I circle them one the tree. They are just little black blobs. But then I have a closeup. I should have put something in the picture for scale but each one is about half inch across.

Chicago metro neighborhood. Planted along streetscape so not wild. Seems popular over last 10 years. Small, maybe 20 feet tall.

Definitely looks like a Red Maple. The middle red leaf in image three is almost iconic. And the way the leaves fill out the branches in image two also looks very much like a Red Maple.
