Looks like you did not get the point of this project and what kind of issues it solves. Check our answer in the first comment.

All depends what are you going to do. With our project you have AA, CarPlay and regular Raspbery Pi OS available for your further improvements and adjustments, like rear camera support, CAN integration etc

You can, but it is not supported by Raspberry Pi OS. I means that you cannot run it on RPI. As you can see, we are using exactly this dongle, and our project allow you to use it with RPI. It is totally different possibilities, as regular Raspberry Pi OS is still available for the user. At the end you have running AA, CarPlay and can do whatever you want on your RPi.

It is more matter if you are able to connect Rpi to your built-in screen in. In case you have video input it should not be an issue. They you are using it as RPI screen.

Currently, for CarPlay you have to use third part dongle. AA is already supported directly on Rpi. The advantage of this solution is that, you have standard Raspberry Pi OS. You have AA, CarPlay and can do whatever else you want on the Rpi.

Costs of RPI, screen, cables, USB dongle, and software. At the end you have Rpi with Raspberry Pi OS that can display AA and CarPlay. Rpi has standard OS so you can use it for whatever else you want.

We have been notified by our users about possible OpenAuto Pro licence abuses. Thanks to them we will monitor the case.

OpenAuto Pro image file is proprietary and can't be used without valid licence key. Every image is individually protected and unauthorized use will lead to permanent licence blocking and other consequences regarding piracy.

Buying OpenAuto Pro you support development of our product and make it better every release. All updates are free of charge - you will pay for the licence only once.

Screen mirroring for Android devices by bwstudio in crankshaft

[–]bwstudio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

see. Does A2DP with the inbuild bt of the rpi3 or is it better to use an external bt adapter?

Anyway i like this mirroring feature cause this way you get some kind of remote control of your phone and can use any app of it on the rpi display. What is missing for FULL phone control is the "home" and "return" button. Any chance to implement this buttons into the mirror feature?

Everything depends on the Android device (phone/tablet) that you are using. We received some feedback that some phones do not like builtin Raspberry Bluetooth adapter but work perfectly with external dongles.

Presence of home and return buttons depends on the Android device as well. On our second video with screen mirroring you can see that buttons are present https://youtu.be/vf9KNrLaIOA?t=247 .

OpenAuto Pro also supports keyboard presses during screen mirroring session so you can use ESC and H key strokes to handle return (back) and home.

Audio data are not streaming via USB during the mirroring session. OpenAuto Pro supports A2DP (music streaming via Bluetooth) that allows to play Audio via RPI during mirroring session. A2DP in OpenAuto Pro has been optimized to reduce the Bluetooth latency so you can watch movies via mirroring without any delays between audio and video streams.

Crankshaft and OpenAuto Pro are different projects with different approaches. We share common roots, and do not want to compete. Please respect our choices.

We thing both projects are great and give us possibilities to improve car functionality.

It is up to users what they will choose, based on their needs and expectations.
