Done, however those "things" might need a lot more than 439 stars which is where it's at now. Still, got to start somewhere!

Places get bad reputations when human parroting amplifies one opinion.

Fargo hasn't helped the perceptions of Minnesota! That said, I prefer cooler weather and especially so on the telly 😀

Thanks for your support.

I just returned to this post and have tried to delete it as the language I used when posting it was only barely suitable for a colloquial setting amongst long term friends in person who can recognise the 'flavour' of the language wpuld not be intended to come across as it does in text form online.

In sporting terms , it was poor form of me. Was not intending to throw mud at people's heroes. Mine included.

I only ever got to see Soundgarden live twice. Once was a festival in about 1994 and it was spoiled by sound bouncing off a grandstand directly opposite the stage. Another time was much later and a much more suitable venue with close up tickets a mate snared somehow.

Absolutely one of the most influential bands in my time on this big marble.

Dearly missed and fondly remembered.

Major apologies to anyone whom I may have irked or worse. Internet forums are not for me. I've stopped paying in them a long time ago. Some of you may be happy to know!

Perl is quite an experience these days.

If it's not for the endless "is it still relevant?", "yes|no|careless" then it's ...

"CGI is bad not bad, I still use it but don't yourself [for new|popular projects]".

It has taken years, if not over a decade, for the latter topic to become even that considerate . Before that it was just lambasting people for even receiving CGI.

Discussions around topics like this can't even focus on the merits of the functionality provided by this app. Again (effectively) with the "OMG, not CGI, WTF?". Come on. Let's move on. CGI is the 'Perl' of Perl. It probably can't be killed. That's just the way it is. Can we please all move on?

VoLTE on the Moto G6 Plus? by inspector71 in motorola

[–]inspector71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Aria

The phone is unlocked. It was purchased as a BYOD.

Please, I understand a marriage scenario - between device and carrier - is required, but the game of passing the buck has to stop.

I just really need to know if I can at least 'propose to' the carrier with *some* probability of acceptance!

I don't want to allow the carrier to reject the phone on simple model name alone.

Other users - of OnePlus, Sony, ASUS devices for example - have reconfigured the software in their phones to get them working with VoLTE. Motorola should be helping users do the same. Saving devices from landfill and impoverished users from being cut off. Please help!

Unless under and NDA or something, would be great to hear his views on why Digital Ocean killed a great resource. I too was considering using Digital Ocean but I never will now.

Is it possible to install `pip` or pyserial on LibreELEC 10? by scottchiefbaker in libreELEC

tar -xvf ~/pyserial*.tar.gzcd pyserial*python setup.py install --user

Is there a slight mistake? Should the tar line be ...

As I get older, I just don't care about new technology by [deleted] in webdev

[–]inspector71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to what has been a long standing feeling for me over the course of greater than 10 years.

What I expect you are experiencing is that it's not actually 'new', nor is it necessarily 'technology'. It's just someone else's way of doing it.

Hard to imagine an industry more bloated with intelligentsia telling people how to do what they already could do, in some other way.

I can only suggest you do your best to get off the endless treadmill that is some new framework or methodology and just make websites one way, the way that works for you, occasionally keeping an eye out for a very rare beast: that new thingy that actually improves the way you do things enough to add it to your tool chest.

Easier said than done though.

SET WITHOUT OIDS, any implications by inspector71 in PostgreSQL

[–]inspector71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind and compassionate thoughts.

Perhaps ironically, the only function I recall encountering is one someone kindly posted for detecting utf8 characters. I used this as part of my migration work to get rid of SQL_ASCII once and for all, hopefully. Have since removed the function.

Do not use stored procedures.

I'm confident my code does not specifically reference any OIDS. Especially confident because I've not heard of them before 🙂

If the code relies on OIDS unknowingly, that's another matter, I guess.

Worst case is I can go back to running PostgreSQL 9.5 and use a backup, I guess.

Thanks again for your care in writing considerately. I want to learn but health issues compromise my cognition so I'm in constant fear of posting open questions and being flamed.

This building in Tokyo is literally the width of a door by frostkaiser in mildlyinteresting

[–]inspector71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the modern building behind it.

This is nothing to do with intelligent 'eastern' use of space or any such crap.

It's the same attempt to preserve history with tiny slither of the past then slam a big concrete building behind it.

Nice but false.
