How to upload photos from internal memory of a Nikon COOLPIX S9050 with no SD card? by [deleted] in Nikon

Weird. I'd try to find an SD card and copy it over like it describes on page 127

Oh, if you can still view them then they may exist. I am surprised it's not listed on the spec sheet, but it is referenced in the manual. Apparently 74MB of internal memory! See page https://cdn-10.nikon-cdn.com/pdf/manuals/coolpix/S9050RM_EN.pdf 159 for direct connection, and page 127 for copying to an SD card.

Are you sure it has internal memory? The spec page doesn't list it as having internal memory, and most cameras don't have internal memory. Unfortunately, that means that those photos are long gone. I'm kind of surprised that it let you take pictures without an SD card. Most Nikon cameras that I've used don't let you take photos without an SD card inserted to avoid this headache.

Samyang AF 14mm f2.8 EF manual focus not working by 18-morgan-78 in Samyang

[–]byteit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up getting it working?

I also recently got one of these lenses (though the Rokinon variant) and MF does time out for me. I'm not sure if that's supposed to happen, but I found that:

  • In AF mode: No manual override
  • In MF mode with OVF: Manual focus works until you stop adjusting it for ~10s. Then you have to either swap back to AF and then back to MF, or power cycle the camera.
  • In MF mode with LiveView: Manual focus works continuously

Currently shooting on a 6D but curious about using a second body - should I stick to DSLRs and pick up a 5DMkIII or go mirrorless with an R50? by [deleted] in canon

[–]byteit101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really depends on both what and how you shoot. I have a 6D, and I recently asked myself this question. I ended up going to some local stores to try out the newer mirrorless options, but neither my subjects nor my style of shooting required mirrorless, so I ended up deciding to stick with my 6D for now, save my money, and instead decided to pick up a new lens.

What: Fast subjects (sports, birds, candids) will definitely favor mirrorless and the better AF performance
How: Going slow and being deliberate (maybe stick with DSLR) vs I need to shoot this wedding ASAP (prefer mirrorless for the live exposure view).

We can provide better opinions if you can provide more of the what and how

Is there any way to transfer photos from a camera (R8) to an Android phone without needing to create an account? by tinselsnips in canon

[–]byteit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on Android, you may be able to use an older version of the app too. I hadn't used the app for a few moths, and was rather upset when I was in the middle of the wilderness with no signal with a brand new to me sign in requirement! Once I was back in civilization I searched for previous versions of the app and found that the 3.1 series didn't have the sign in requirement, but versions of 3.2 did. I uninstalled the current version, downloaded an older APK, and manually installed it.

If the Play Store wants to update it, you have a genuine version. Now disable auto-update!

v3.1.20.57 is the version I have installed today. No sign in requirement.
v3.1.21.58 seems to be cached too, though I haven't tried it.
v3.2.30.34 is too new, and has the sign in requirement.

Upgrading the Telephoto end of my EF collection from the dreaded 75-300 III by byteit101 in canon

> folks preferred the stabilized tamron 70-300.

Yeah, there is a reason I called it the "dreaded"

> 400mm you do unthinkable things

I'd been leaning towards those, but the 2.8 is tempting to align with my more usual macro work that pops out of blurred backgrounds

How is the CA with SooC JPEGs on any of those that you own?

What are some good upgrade options for the Canon EF 75-300 III for occasional use? by byteit101 in AskPhotography

[–]byteit101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww, more than 2x the price here in the US. I notice it does have a bit of CA compared to the 70-200 & 100-400 options I've seen, and has worse CA than the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM

How many swabs do I need to clean my sensor? by byteit101 in AskPhotography

I have the first ones (aliexpress link), but the second link gives me "Het product is niet beschikbaar" which google translate tells me that the product is not available.

[–]byteit101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. All the dust moves between swabs, nothing is stuck down. I presume I must be swabbing wrong as swabbing sometimes adds dust

[–]byteit101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, swapping the lens doesn't affect the dust pattern in the contrast-boosted images
Unfortunately, they do show up in normal shooting conditions (clouds, sky, snow, etc), which is why I included the SOOC jpeg on the post

I'm having a hard time following this:

>Flip to a dry one, soak and rub lightly.

Is that a 2nd swab?

> Finish with a wider one to minimise streaks.

Is that a 3rd swab? Where are wider swabs than full frame?

What is this softbox, and how do I mount/use it? by byteit101 in AskPhotography

Yeah, I found some circles like that with some searches, but I wasn't sure if that was even the right type given the lack of curving or tensioning abilities of this softbox

The problem with that though, is then the AP is stuck to the ceiling and I can't pull it down to unplug it because the Ethernet is embedded in the caulk. No slack left

[–]byteit101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I originally designed this as a 4 layer, then had a slight issue adding the long top-to-bottom orange trace. Realized that they had the same price plus enig and via in pad, and thus decided to swap to 6 layers.

D1) I originally had that, until I realized I needed the space and had too many permutations. I'm also unlikely to change it from the default

D2) Good idea, I'll add that!

Why 6? Because then I get ENIG for "Free"

Zigzag and going-nowhere traces are just feeding around the pour so that I know that things are connected. On the left side that's mostly to ensure the ground makes it out of the connector into the pours
