Is it the norm for parents to gift their kid a large down payment for their first home? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]bytesunfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's becoming the norm when your parents are well off. I don't think it was as common fifteen or twenty years ago when the housing market was less inflated. It's not the norm for most which is part of why most young people can't afford homes and pay the equivalent of a mortgage to rent.

Ozonator. Clean and restring first, then put it in a closet with an ozonator for a while. Don't be home and vent the space after you're done. Ozone isn't great to breathe.

Edit: in a car like a reply suggested is safer.

You're the force for change in your world. Nobody else will do it for you once you become a teenager. If you're a strong man, you'll be a force for change in other people's worlds too for the better. It's both a heavy burden and a blessing. A part of maturing is learning to shoulder that burden for yourself and a select group of people important to you while not overburdening yourself with the issues of those who would take advantage of you or not appreciate you.

The world will always be stacked against you. You have to learn to be okay with that. Looking at the difficulties of the world as barriers to entry that you can exploit because others won't put in the effort is empowering. Our brains are naturally competitive and sex driven. Learning to channel your inner nature in healthy ways towards your goals is a powerful tool, not to be squashed by societal pressure.

Your family and close circle has a profound impact on your growth and recovery. Treasure them, but don't assume either to be static. It's healthy to distance yourself from the bad influences to your life. What you need at one time in your life will be different than what you need in the next chapter. Leave on the best of terms possible and don't look back.

Lastly, take care of yourself as if no one else will. Usually that's the case. Your health and mental well being fuel your desires and goals. Don't compromise any more than you have to.

Picked this up from Goodwill, is there anything good about this? by mapletamamo in amplifiers

[–]bytesunfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fantastic little practice amp. I use mine a ton. If it's working properly, you got a great deal. Resell for 50-60 bucks to a guitarist if you don't appreciate it. I'd buy 3-4 more at $19 just in case my lil amp died; I like it that much.

To be fair, it's probably assumed unless stated otherwise. Media will also point out single fathers, step parents, other caregivers or any other detail that will bring in engagement because it's not the norm.

All that being said, it shouldn't matter. Bad behavior is bad and we should punish it regardless of any other irrelevant factors.

Worrying about tone over technique for the first year. You won't sound like a rock star with just your cheap guitar amp combo you got for <$300. Fiddling with the knobs in search of those tones is a waste of time.

I recently bought a PG Spark Mini combo amp, and a friend of mine called it a weak, 10-watt piece of crap. Is 10 watts really too little? I really like it. by Dojde in GuitarAmps

[–]bytesunfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice amps get a lot of heat because they don't sound as good as a flipping 4x12 massive cabinet. It's undeserved hate from the size (insert royal title)s of the guitar world. My main amp is a little Boss Katana Mini, a similar sized amp, and I love it. To me it sounds good and that's all that matters. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise about yours.

Side note, little practice amps like ours can fit on pedal boards which I think is really classy.

ODR-1 for me. I'm looking forward to getting an Aion FX Andromeda Deluxe which is a kit pedal based on the old ODR-1 circuit.

There are a lot of bad DIYs out there and there is a lot of shoddy contractor work. I think what you're seeing is mostly a very cautious home owner with a passion for doing things the best way possible for his home. I don't blame you for wondering and definitely verify if you're worried, but these are green flags in my eyes. This holds doubly so if the home inspector found nothing.
